maybe I should have been clearer in my previous message. I just don't
want to drop a lot of money on a bunch of discs that are going to sit
in a box. And please believe me when I say the discs that are
completely graphics on the enitre disc are the most hideous things on
the face of the planet. I know that just about everyone knows that I'm
picky when it comes to discs, but considering everything I've heard
anyone else say about these discs I'm fairly certain that very few
people outside of our group would buy them.

But since everyone is really excited about discs...here's a couple
more cents. The normal ultra-star hotstamping has a couple of options
with orders from 100-199. We can get a one-colored design and choose
up to two disc colors and up to two graphic colors. Or a two-colored
design with up to two disc colors and the same colors in the design
will be used on both disc colors. I don't know if people have
discussed colors at all, but the site is
http://discraft.com/ulthotstamp.html. If we're looking at the
traditional blue and white the metallic silver and blue look really
good on a white disc, and probably would on a black disc. The nite-glo
discs are really cool too and they stay glowy for a while. They're
$.50 extra per disc I think.

Not only would this give us a variety to choose from for ourselves,
but it would help market left-over discs to people who've never heard
of us, but think the discs look cool. Like I have 5 discs that are
just awesome but from tournaments I've never played in and teams I've
never heard of. If we use the white/nite-glo option that would cost us
$492. Discs are typically sold at $10, so if we did that and sold all
the discs, we would make a profit of $508. Even just at $8 a disc
that's $308 that could be used toward get some sick sweatbands, or
hats/visors, or jerseys (that I could probably get us a sick deal on),
or whatever else. Even if we weren't looking at a profit, we would
have to sell only half the discs at $10 to break even, and 60 at $8.

And about the Kali discs it's not an either/or situation. You can
still seek to expand your frisbee collection, such as Nick Reed.

Sorry for being so long-winded, but being so far away I should
probably get everything in all together. See ya'll soon.

Annie

ps: Nick you never told me what color of our disc to get you and I
have a nationals disc for you too for a total of $15

Hey Annie, definitly nothing personal, but the purpose of getting Soup
discs isnt simply so those not in college can get a nice disc. It's
more of a unifying thing and we're getting better organized this year
and it'd be something special to have discs of our own little somerset
group. If the youngins get Kali discs, we're probably not going to
sell as many Soup discs and we may have to scrap our fun little idea
altogether.

I am definitely interested in buying a disc or two. I really don’t own a good disc… so this would be cool. You can mark me down for two actually. When should I get money in by and to whom?

Hey guys,

Tonight's first Soup (I'm not capitalizing UP from now on because it
looks funny and some people don't get the connection 'Sou-Up?,
what?')pick up was awesome. Thanx to everyone that came, we had a
great turn-out for our first time playing this season. Make sure to
tell everyone not on this list to get on it! A few comments,

I completely agree with Nunes in that we need to "lay-out" (I am so
witty) some rules for how we play, but hopefully we'll have an
ultimate-players summit soon and post them here. Just a few quick ones
before we get more specific, 1) Observe the boundaries, the best
perspective on the field decides whether the player is in or out. The
best perspective is usually the person who caught the disc, usually.
2) No intentional contact, if you are on defense, give the person you
are covering some space. and last 3) once you stop running after
catching a disc, thats it. Establish a pivot foot. A lot of people
have a tendency to take a couple extra steps or move their pivot foot
when they throw. Do your best not to do that.

Another quick note. I'd like to set a deadline for ordering Soup discs
"buy" the end of this week, maybe by the end of next weekend. That way
we'll have them hopefully by the end of June. I think Donnelly has a
really good idea with his Campbell's Soup can. Maybe he could scan it
and post it? If anyone has any other ideas let us know. Also, we'll
need some help getting the idea off the ground. It will cost somewhere
between 400-500 dollars to get 50 super color discs or 100 regular
discs. (That's the minimum you can buy) I don't have a credit card so
I cant be the one to order but it would help if we had as many
volunteers to pitch in money to whoever does end up ordering them. In
the best possible scenario we'd get all the money back but it is
possible that we'll be eating some of the cost. We'd sell the discs
for 10 dollars regular, 12 for super color. Losing money on the thing
would suck but on the plus side, whoever goes in on it gets extra
discs split evenly amongst the people that payed. Think about it, the
glory of extra discs. You can use them for playing ultimate, disc
golfing, regular tossing, display them on a mantle, use as a dog or
cat water bowl, get a bunch for dinner plates, if you find yourself
suddenly naked, they make great fig leaves, the possibilites are
endless! So help makes this Soup disc idea a success! Post or let one
of us know if you'd like to help out.

That is all,

~Nick

Hey guys

I am completely sorry I couldn't be there today. I had planned on it
and looked forward to it. I had my first day of work starting this
morning at 8:30 and figured I'd get out with plenty of time to spare
before today's game but alas, I was there until 8:17 PM. I should be
there on sunday, perhaps a little late because of a graduation party
at the nunes' house for Ed. Hope to see you all there!

Okay so,
Disregard all the previous messages. Due to interest in still
playing today, the game will be rescheduled for a 5:00 start time. I
don't know if there is anyone using the fields at that time, but we
will find somewhere to play no matter what. However, if it is raining
before that time, we will not be playing, as we don't want to wear out
our welcome by tearing up wet fields on the first day. I'm sorry for
all the confusion. I still think we should try to play on Sunday,
too. We can discuss that later. I hope to see as many people as
possible there today.

who's afraid of a little rain? the thunderstorms i
can understand, but weather people usually err on the
side of caution. i'd like to hear from all the other
people who were planning on it. if nobody is going to
show today, then by all means reschedule, but if we
have a full game tonight, let's go tonight and if we
get wet, we get wet. i would be up for any kind of a
start time, doesnt matter to me. just let me know.

Okay so,
The reason for the reschedule is the weather. According to the
weather channel we are going to have thunderstorms starting around
6:30. I would prefer to play today too, but if we only have a few
people show up because of the threat of thunderstorms or we actually
have thunderstorms, it doesn't make much sense. I chose Sunday as a
make-up because it is supposed to clear up by then. If enough people
can commit to tonight, perhaps an earlier start time (5:00?) I am in
favor of that, but I don't see the original scheduled time as being
able to work.

wait, did we just reschedule from friday to sunday?
or are we playing tonight still? i cant make it
sunday if we do, and i think a lot of other people who
have been planning for today will have issues with
rescheduling short notice like that. if we're voting,
my vote is to play today, 630, as had been planned.

Okay so,
The weather report says there is a 40 to 50% chance of rain, which
will have thunderstorms accompanying it. On the bright side, that
means there is a 50-60% chance of no rain or thunderstorms. However,
to be safe, I propose a same time, same place on Sunday. So the
inaugural game of SoUP will be Sunday 6:30pm at Somerset High School.
See you all there,

Okay so,
I'm going to say we should play at 6:30 on Friday at the High
School. Make sure to spread the word to people who are not cool
enough to have joined the mailing list, and tell them all to join
too. I hope to see a lot of people there being the first ever SoUP
pick-up day.

Hello,

So for those not around for tonight's RIPul pickup, we decided it
would be awesome this year to actually order SoUP custom designed
discs. For a design we were kicking around the idea of one of Andy
Warhol's campbell cans. Tonight we were under the impression that we
could order a minimum of 25 discs and sell them for the minimum (about
6 dollars) as we're not out to make a buck, but just promote tuesday
night ultimate.

I looked at the disc craft website and our options. First of all, for
the standard 1-2 color design, the minimum is 100 discs, far more than
we anticipated. The cost is 5.50 per disc. With 100 of these plus the
%20 UPA discount, the final cost is $440 dollars total.

I figure there's about 30 of us that play, though not all are weekly,
so that leaves 70 discs that we would need to sell. This is kind of a
tough number. Us collegiates could sell some at RIpul and maybe
tourny's in the fall, but that could be tough because we're not a team
and we're a bunch of people no one ever heard of. Still open to ideas
though.

Another option I saw was the special color design. This is a print
that uses any amount of colors and is pretty much a color picture on
the entire disc. These cost 9 dollars and have a minimum of 50 that
you have to order. With the UPA discount, the total cost would be 360
dollars. We would sell these at about 9-10 dollars depending on
shipping costs and so forth. If we sold the 30 to SoUP players, and
had a cool design, we could potentially sell all of them, otherwise
eat the remaining cost.

So here's the break down, if we have a regular print, we'll def. have
to eat part of the cost, about $220 if we sell 50. If we order the
psychedelic crazy color print, we potentially won't be eating any cost
or possibly up to $200 if we only sell 30.

I could be looking at this at the wrong angle, so please submit some
feedback or other ideas for a disc design.

~Nick

PS: I posted our tuesday pick-up on the upa website because in order
to get the %20 discount, the orderer must be a upa member AND the
discs have to be for a team, tournement, league, or club.

PPS: Another idea in order so we dont eat as much of the cost could be
to sell the discs for a few extra bucks. If we sold the standard 2
color design for ten dollars, the $4 extra times 50 is 200, so thats
close to the cost we would be losing anyway. Send Feedback!

idea.
