I'm sure they are. The only problem with youtube is the things I really want to
see often aren't there!!! But as for less-titled skaters, there is usually a
wealth of things to see that never made US TV. Also, quite liked checking out
some old gymnastics videos...

May 30th - Allsport reports that Piseev announced that Oleg Ovsiannikov, 1998-99
world ice dance champion, 37 years old has decided to return to Russia. He has
been named head coach of synchronized skating, a mostly administrative post,
which is not his experience - notes Piseev, "but we'll help him". He went on
about how synchro is so great, but only local clubs represent Russia
internationally, etc. They also count on his expertise and advice with regard to
ice dance development.

Additionally, another Allsport article notes cut in participants for GP events
because of limiting to 2 groups of skaters so that events will be shorter. 4+4 =
maximum of 8 pair teams, 5+5= maximum of 10 dance teams and 12 singles.

Just happened to catch a few scenes of the mushy Disney movie, "Ice
Princess" tonight. Gee, don't they know anything about skating at
Disney, considering they had MK as their spokeswoman for years? The
way the two main female leads are built, especially in the upper
shelf, they would be lucky if they can land a single axel. They're
better off going to Harvard or whatever.

I have two "All-Event: Gold tickets" for Skate America 2007 10/25-10/28
(in Reading) that I cannot use and would like to sell. They include
practice tickets and all competition AND exhibition tickets. They are
located in section 104, row B, seats 5 and 6. They're great seats that
cost me $514. I am willing to sell them for $450. Please email me if
interested!

I've heard Zhulin sing on New Year's special with his celebrity actress skating
partner Ingeborge Dapkanaute a ballad in romantic film style and on "Good Jokes"
- basically a deep joking thing, and a jokey folk song in style of heavy metal
(along with Navka, Dapkanaute). But a nice, deep voice in romantic style...

Sounds like an official, regimented program of regular steroid
administration to me. Of course I know it's not that, but sheesh,
that's the only thing that came to mind when I read something that
sounds as Big Brother-ish or is as reminiscent of athlete-as-lab-rat
as "Athlete Performance Enhancement and Tracking."

Just called out the phrase to DH, and his quick reply was, "sounds like
steroid use to me."

Maybe they should re-think the title. Or not, if they like the
slightly sinister sound of it.

Savchenko & Szolsky are working on throw 3 axel and quad salchow.

Fumie Suguri will compete next season and programs will be done by Zhulin:
"I'm intending to remain in the Japanese national team and compete until at
least 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. In general, I would like to compete until 40
years of age, but I don't know if I'll manage it or not. I feel great in

I'll come back to Moscow." Fumie Suguri

When I saw the job description listed on the USFSA web site a couple
months ago, I was imagining that it was a purely administrative
position, but I can't think that Casey would be interested in a job
like that. Maybe they're planning a more formal program of COP
evaluation and general competition readiness monitoring for
international competitors, the same way that Skate Canada has had some
coaches on national team staff for a while now. Up until now,
competitors have relied on getting critiques from judges at summer
competitions or informal monitoring sessions arranged by the coach
with a visiting judge, and the advice they've gotten that way has been
been uneven, to say the least.

A couple of places I frequent pointed out that the last one or two
times the Miss Universe pageant was held in Mexico, Miss USA was
booed, and that the booers usually did so when USA made the final 5/10
and Mexico didn't. They mentioned Kenya Moore being booed the year
she won. So who knows exactly why this year's Miss USA was booed?

Fred, I heard an alternate point of view which made more sense to
me than Trump's idea, which is what you noted.

And that is . . . USA fell, yet still made the cut for the top 5,
whereas Mexico, where the pageant was held, was cut from
the top 5. It was an issue of, "How can this be fair? Is it
rigged?"

Makes sense to me, especially sense the Mexican crowd had been
very supportive and warm towards USA when she recovered from
the fall. They didn't boo her then, they didn't boo her dearing
swimsuit comp. The booing only came when she made top 5
in spite of her fall, and Mexico didn't.

Just another view.

I was on a gymnastics forum during the 06 Olympics. People were criticizing
the American audience because they were too loud. A coupel of posters mention
that gymnastics events in China and Europe were ten times worse. *shrug*\

Some people find the bells that the Dutch have annoying. When speed skating

Sasha Cohen was in Turin as one of the American medal favorites...to my
mind she has never done or said anything particularly objectionable..so if she
was booed
it pretty much had to be only because the audience didn't like Americans. You
can call that "politics" or "bad sportsmanship" as you choose.

The coverage I read said that the booing of Miss USA was founded
in unhappiness in Mexico over the current immigration controversies..

So because the USA is not letting in all of Mexico's poor they have the
right to boo us??? Because the USA is will not allow a country to get rid of the
peple they don't ant to help, they have the right to boo us at an
international competion. The fans were cordial to the United States at the World
Cup other
Olympic Games. Wester Europeans are not welcoming in Estern Europeans but
they are not booing them because of that. Jeez.

It is funny, they were showing all of these skyscrapers and saying that
Mexico City was a modern city/ Those people in the audience were not poor.

This is skating and i don't want to get off topic, but I thought it was rude
unsportsman like. I remember I was watching the Grand Prix in Russia and the
fans seem nice.

I'll add this reminds of the World Cup where it was reported only one team's bus
was unmarked, USA, for player safety, we're not very popular.

not anything to do with her individually or the competition.

We (Americans) have to appreciate that we aren't popular many
places in the world at present.

Wow, I thought she oozed personality in the 20 minute clip I saw!
Brazil looked wooden to me. Different strokes

What I really hated was when they Booed Miss USA. That was uncalled for. When
the pageant was held in the USA I don't remember that kind of booing when M
iss USA did not wake the top 5. I was sure Miss Angola or Miss Tanzania was
going to make it. Miss Japan should have won last year. I did not like the woman
they picked this year.

I thought they booed because she made in the Top 5 after falling, this makes
more sense. Thanks.

I remember that Miss Japan from last year too and I also thought she should
have won.

She was the total package. She was smart, beautiful, confident, graceful. She
spoke different languages and was working at the UN. She had it all.
