Already the youngest player in NHL history to reach 100 points in a season and win the scoring title, Sidney Crosby added another historic distinction to his list of accomplishments – youngest captain in NHL history.
Penguins Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero announced Crosby's captaincy on Thursday. The 19-year-old star center was given his new jersey with the captain's C stitched on the left shoulder by Mario Lemieux, the Penguins' legendary star.

Crosby Feels Time is Right to be Captain

That's why Sidney Crosby wanted to make sure the time was right to wear the C for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Now, that time is upon us.
Crosby was awarded the Penguins' captaincy on Thursday at a press luncheon at Mellon Arena. However, that press conference could have happened as early as January.

Two Boys and Girls Clubs to Get Donations, Thanks to Crosby, COLD-fX
Two chapters of the Boys and Girls Clubs – one in Western Pennsylvania, one in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia – will receive donations of $2,500, thanks to Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby and COLD-fX.
Crosby was named the winner of the Mark Messier Leadership Award in January, and COLD-fX is making a $5,000 donation to a charity designated by each monthly winner.
Crosby, a native of Cole Harbour, chose to split his donation between the Boys and Girls Club of Western Pennsylvania and the Boys and Girls Club of Cole Harbour -- $2,500 to each.
