Sidney Crosby received the Dapper Dan Sportsman of the Year award Sunday night, becoming the youngest recipient in the 71-year history of the prestigious charity event.
Crosby was honored along with WNBA star Swin Cash (Sportswoman of the Year) and Steelers chairman Dan Rooney (Lifetime Achievement Award) in a gala affair at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
Penguins winger Mark Recchi made the official presentation to Crosby before a crowd of more than 1,000, which gave the 19-year-old NHL scoring champion a standing ovation.

Crosby to Miss World Championships
Sidney Crosby will have to settle for one scoring title this season.
The NHL's Art Ross Trophy winner will not defend his World Championship scoring title for Team Canada at this year's tournament in Moscow.
Crosby will sit out the tournament to let a broken bone in his left foot heal.
"It would have been a huge thrill for me to play for Team Canada again, especially in Moscow, which is a place I've always wanted to play," he said.

Malkin, Staal, Gonchar to Play in World Championships
The hockey season will go on for some Pittsburgh Penguins.
Evgeni Malkin, Jordan Staal and Sergei Gonchar will represent their countries at the IIHF World Championships in Moscow, Russia, at the end of the month.
Malkin and Gonchar will represent the home country, which opens play April 27 against Denmark.
"Evgeni is excited about playing in Russia at the World Championship. He has family coming to Moscow to see him," Gonchar said. "He is playing at home in front of his home country and fans. His family is coming and his friends are coming, so it's such a big thing for him."

Playoff Experience Benefits Young Penguins
The Pittsburgh Penguins entered the Stanley Cup playoffs missing one key trait – playoff experience.
They certainly have that now.
The Penguins and Senators endured a physical Eastern Conference quarterfinal series. Although the Senators won the series, 4-1, the young Penguins did not come away empty-handed – they learned the ins and outs of playoff hockey.
