Hey all. I'm bummed to be missing you, but I'm not going to be able to go to the SLC event. I am going to the Vancouver even the following weekend - is anyone going up there?

Yvonne, it will be held at the Hardee's Iceplex, 16851 North Outer
Forty Drive, Chesterfield, Missouri 63005 - 636-537-4200. I just got
word that ticket info is due to be posted within the next couple of
days at the USS website and mospeedskating.org.
I'll probably be at AmCup1 when that happens, so if anybody sees it,
please post!

I know a lot of people are planning for events
much closer in time, but I have a question about
Nationals in December.
Does anyone know the location of the event? US
Speedskating has a link to the Doubletree in St.
Louis, but nothing about the event site.
Thanks!

might as well save a step and include the following info to Greg.
Name, address, phone numbers, number of tickets you want and what type

you want to sit with, sync up with them before ordering your tickets!

I talked to the meet director, and he said that the plan is to allow us to purchase advance VIP tickets that will be held for pickup when we get to Minneapolis. They haven't actually had the 'meeting' about this, and haven't set prices, but the VIP tickets are likely to run about $25 per day and will be located at the starting line of the 1000M race. (They're even gonna remove the glass so the view will be GREAT!). General admission tickets will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $10-$15. Yes, Mike, the last I heard, tickets will go on sale for the SLC
World Cup on Sept 1 through SmithsTix.com. Here's the link that I've
been watching... http://smithstix.com/QSearch.aspx
Also, I was asked about the weather in SLC in October - here's a cool

(other than what color jacket to wear...)

This is the latest on tickets for Nationals:
Tickets will go on sale in mid to late September. General Admission
will be $5 per day and reserved seating will be $10/day or all three
days for $25 w/advanced purchase.
When they actually go on sale, it'll be announced on the USS web site.
Okay, m'dears, I just got off my fanny and did a lil' follow-up research about hotels and tickets for the various events, based on the info y'all have provided so far!
Tickets:
Tickets for the SLC World Cup will go on sale Sept 1 through http://www.smithstix.com/ and at the Oval. Pricing will be similar to last year but they are planning on including a "hospitality" package which includes reserved seating and food/drinks for approximately $65.
This seems like a nice compromise between General Admission and VIP seats - I wonder if all our begging and pleading for VIP seats last year had any influence??? LOL!
Tickets for Nationals in December are scheduled to go on sale in Sept as well, but I don't have any specifics.
-----------------------------------------------
For those of you who are really hoping to see Apolo skate, I did hear again that 'as far as we know, he will skate'. But keep in mind that unless he has a bye (and I haven't seen any indication that he does), he can't just 'sign up' for the World Cups - he would have to qualify via AmCup1 in Minneapolis in September. He probaby WILL qualify, but stranger things have happened, and y'all should keep that lil' detail in mind.
-----------------------------------------------
Hotels:
Host hotels (2 of them) for AmCup1 - Minneapolis, Sept 27-28... Thx, Mtnme for letting us know this info is up on USS.org:
Country Inn, Plymouth, MN Direct phone # (763) 473-3008 The rate is $89 for Thurs, Fri, Sat - central reservations quoted $139 for Sunday night, but the local number offered the $89 rate - rate includes hot breakfast
Radisson, Plymouth, MN Direct phone # (763) 559-6600 The rate is $99 per night for all nights This rate does not include breakfast, but you have the option to include breakfast for 2 for $10 more per day
The block for these rates is listed as 'Plymouth Wayzata Speedskating'.
The hotels confirmed that these rates are available to fans.
Host hotel for World Cup 1 in SLC, Oct 17-19:
Red Lion Downtown SLC Direct phone # (801) 521-7373
I found out that there IS a way to stay there for those who are he**-bent to do so - (rooms ARE available), but I'm waiting for confirmation of that. However, the info I have so far is that the group rate is $192 per night. For your reference, it was $89 last year. The Hilton Garden Inn across the street is $89 this year. ($192 or $89 - your choice - I know what my choice is! )
If you want to stay at the HGI, contact Anthony at anthony.barthell@.... Hey, you can always walk across the street and ride the 'skater-vators' or dine in the restaurant if you want to star-gaze...
Host Hotel for Nationals in St. Louis, Dec 19-21:
Doubletree Hotel, Chesterfield, MO Direct # (636) 532-5000 The rate is $89 per night for Thurs thru Sat, $109 for Sunday night. The rate includes breakfast for all except Monday morning.
The hotel AND an event coordinator confirmed that these rates are available to fans.
------------------------------------------------
As for Vancouver - I think I know what the host hotel(s) might be, but they have no signed contract yet. The hotels I've talked to say that the venue for the event isn't certain yet, because the Richmond Oval is still under construction.
I did book a room at the Doubletree for Nationals and got the rates mentioned above.
I haven't booked yet for AmCup - still trying to decide between CI and the Radisson!
Just a reminder, for those who have to leave on Sunday (any of the above events), I'd advise taking the latest flight that you can. For those who are carpooling, you should also look into taxi rates from the venue to the airport if there's a chance that you'll have to leave before the event is over.
For anybody who does arrive in time (Thursday for the WC's/Nationals and Friday for AmCup1), we'll probably try to get together for dinner around 7 or 8-'ish'. Last year I changed the time to allow for some people who really wanted to come but couldn't get here 'till later, so if you communicate with me we can be flexible!
When you book rooms, please be clear that you are NOT a skater, coach or trainer. What I'm hearing is that they usually allow extra rooms outside the skater-block for fans, friends and family, and we obviously don't want to take the rooms allotted to the participants.
Hi, Yvonne, this is what I heard:
"Our host server crashed overnight and all of the sites hosted there
are temporarily offline until they can restore via backups. No ETA on
the fix, though."
Hopefully they won't lose any data... their archives are priceless!~

Hey, all - I just booked an AMAZING $258 non-stop fare from Los Angeles to Minneapolis for AmCup1 through Orbitz. Just yesterday the best I could do was $550. Even with taxes and fees this is still under $300.
On another note, the special rate at the Doubletree (the host hotel) for Nationals in St Louis is expected to be $89 plus tax, with free breakfasts and access to the hotel's exercise facilities, plus free wi-fi and in room internet access (for our reports back to our 'posse's). This is the same rate we got at the Red Lion for last year's World Cup, but last year it didn't include breakfast. The rate is available to both fans and skaters. (Yeah, I asked, so we don't have another mixup like last year when they booked us in the skaters' block of rooms!) Keep checking USS and mospeedskating.org for bulletins later this week or early next week.
Ticket info for Nationals probably won't be available 'till September...
Also, I'm hearing that there's a convention in town, so the Red Lion is booked for the SLC World Cup - check out Anthony's post about the Hilton Garden Inn!
If anyone has info about the host hotels for Minneapolis or Vancouver, please post!
A couple of days ago, Southwest Airlines opened up their schedule for
December bookings, and the fares are pretty good. I'm in L.A., and the
fares from here to Nationals in St. Louis were about $260 r/t.
The last time I checked, the airfares to SLC and Seattle (drive to
Vancouver) for the World Cups were very reasonable, too...
If you're in a city serviced by Southwest, I'd also recommend signing
up for their 'DING' alerts... if a great deal shows up at the last
minute, you can grab it - or if you've already bought a ticket, you can
re-book and they'll give you a credit for the difference. You can use
the credit within one year toward a future SW flight.
For those who had questions about the tickets... I get alerts when
brownpapertickets.com adds a new event, and every alert has been for
an event in the SLC area, so for that reason I'm guessing that BPT is
a local outlet and wouldn't be used for Nationals in St. Louis -
though they might be used for World Cup 1 in SLC. My contact at the
Oval said they were hoping to switch to an in-house system for
tickets for last year's WC, but they didn't get it working in time so
they went back to BPT for that event - maybe they'll have it up and
running this time around. It's way early for them to be going on
sale, but I'll check on it soon and let y'all know when I hear
anything!

I plan on being in Salt Lake .. it was such a fantastic experience. I'll be seeking a room mate if anyone's interested, plus I hope to join in with the car rental group from last time. What a great group of people and they come complete with a theme song. Mari

The oval used brown paper tickets last time, but they may choose to
use their own system this time (which they were trying to do
originally for WC 6, they just couldn't get their software to work)
As for the other events, it's a crap shoot. In other words, we don't
know yet. It's up to USS and the venues to decide how they want to
sell their tickets, and there is no information up yet. There
probably won't be until a month before the event.
Lori, however, has contacts that she will no doubt pester until we
have some answers. - so hang tight...

Thanks, Anthony! I had it on my mind to check with ya' on that.
Everyone who stayed at the HGI last season had a great time and had
nothing but great things to say about the treatment they got from
Anthony and the entire staff. I stayed at the Red Lion last time,
but plan to go with the HGI this time around.
