The Anaheim Ducks, parent club of the AHL's Portland Pirates, announced that they have signed right wings Pierre Parenteau and Shawn Thornton to one-year contracts.

Per club policy, no financial terms of the deals were disclosed.

Parenteau, 23, ranked third on the Portland Pirates in scoring with 49 points (22g, 27a) in 56 regular-season games in 2005-06. He also placed sixth in the entire AHL in postseason scoring with 22 points (5g, 17a) in 19 Calder Cup Playoff contests. Parenteau scored the series-clinching overtime goal in Game 6 of Portland's division final victory over Hartford.

A native of Hull, Que., Parenteau has tallied 53 goals and 67 assists for 120 points in 198 career AHL games with Portland and Cincinnati. He was a ninth-round draft pick by Anaheim in 2001.

Shawn Thornton has racked up nearly 2,500 minutes in penalties over nine AHL seasons.

Thornton recorded 10 goals and 22 assists for a career-best 32 points, along with 192 penalty minutes, in 59 games for the Norfolk Admirals in 2005-06. He also went scoreless with 16 PIM in 10 NHL contests for Chicago.

A native of Oshawa, Ont., Thornton ranks third on the AHL's all-time penalty minutes leaderboard with 2,423 PIM. He has also contributed 57 goals and 96 assists for 153 points in 590 career AHL games over nine seasons with Norfolk (2001-06) and St. John's (1997-2001).

Thornton, who has two goals, one assist and 70 PIM in 31 career NHL matches, was originally drafted by Toronto in 1997.
