Regardless of how old you are or what rank you have acquired in your training, most martial arts students share a common goal... to be the best they can be. Sure, you may never be able to leap five feet in the air, flip, and accurately side-kick your target and land in a full split. But, in reality, that does not matter. What does matter is that you are striving toward your personal potential. To get there, follow the seven habits of highly successful students.
Habit One - Be There Getting to class is important not only to continue your learning but also to provide your body with the routine of physically and mentally utilizing your knowledge. Experts have determined that two classes per week is optimal for beginners and lower intermediate students, while higher intermediate and advanced students may benefit from three or more classes.
Habit Two – Practice Review at home what you learn in class is critical to enabling you to master your skills. Home practice makes your class experience much more beneficial and comfortable. Practice anything new you learn in class for five to ten minutes as soon as you get home that day. This ensures that you practice your new material properly while it is still fresh in your mind.
Habit Three - Eat Right You are what you eat. Eat healthfully and your body will pay dividends when you challenge yourself mentally as well as physically. Good nutrition is recognized as a necessity for peak performance. And it's never too late to make nutrition a priority, so forget what may have happened over the holidays!!
Habit Four - Stretch Daily Muscles that are stretched routinely become more flexible. Flexible muscles respond stronger and faster which allows your body to perform your martial arts techniques with a "superman" quality. An added benefit is an increased metabolism... and we can all use that, right? (Note: warm up your muscles before stretching.)
Habit Five – Meditate Yes, Meditate. Now you don't have to lull yourself in to a trance. Just take five to ten minutes a day by yourself; close your eyes and relax. Those precious few minutes right before you pass out in bed each night don't count. Challenge yourself to budget additional time each day. Take a few of those minutes and visualize yourself performing martial arts techniques that are hard and challenging. Your mind can be a great asset when it comes time to perform these techniques live.
Habit Six – Teach Help out a fellow student or teach yourself. The teaching process actually "hard codes" information into your brain and helps you earn better. In fact, this is a great practicing strategy. Stand in front of a mirror and verbally teach yourself how to perform a technique. While speaking out loud, make necessary corrections and positively reinforce yourself. It may sound silly, but it works!
Habit Seven - Set Goals Have you officially set Black Belt as your goal yet? Have you set a specific time-line to achieve that goal? Have you set a goal for your next rank? Would you like to teach some day or have your own school? What are your goals? A goal set is a goal already half completed.
Follow these seven habits of highly successful martial artists and you'll achieve your martial arts potential... and you may even surprise yourself at what your potential actually is.
Here are 3 kick-butt bodyweight exercises you can do on Memorial Day to burn fat, stay energized, and avoid overeating.
Bodyweight exercises help you burn fat shockingly fast, without any fancy equipment.
1) Any Single-Leg Exercise The pistol (single-leg squat to the floor) is the most advanced 1-leg exercise. But you can also do assisted single-leg squats with a band, or onto a bench, or even with a Stability Ball between your back and the wall.
If you aren't ready for single-leg squats, you can use Bulgarian Split Squats, Reverse Lunges, regular split squats, or lying 1-leg hip bridges if
you are a beginner.
2) Decline Push-ups These are harder than normal pushups, thanks to your elevated feet. And in this position, you can still use a close-grip to fatigue your triceps, a "piked-hip position" to build your shoulders, or even the Spiderman leg motion to work on your abs.
3) Bodyweight Inverted Rows I choose these over chinups and pullups because bodyweight rows let your chest rest, while your back is strengthened. It's the perfect compliment to a pushup.
Do 8-12 repetitions per exercise. Don't rest between exercises. Go through the circuit up to 3 times, resting 1 minute after each circuit.
For a once-per-month challenge, do each exercise to failure in your final round through the circuit.

Turbulence Training for Fat Loss
Brought to you by Craig Ballantyne &
http://kirkhamsebooks.com/HealthNFitness/TurbulenceFatLoss.html
============================================
If this were a fight, it would be over fast. Intervals are just too
quick, and cardio is just too old and slow. Cardio peaked in the
'80s, poorly, and now interval training is the champ.
While we don't know everything yet about why these shorter, more
intense intervals workouts work the best - but it certainly goes
against the "more is better" approach.
After all, I've had people that write in and say SEVEN hours of
cardio per week is not working for them, and they ask me for
advice...what am I going to say? Do more cardio? Quit your job and
workout full time?
No, of course not. The answer is we have to change the
intensity...we have to go from slow, boring "magazine-reading on
the elliptical" cardio to short and sweet interval training.
Whether it's a fast walk for beginners or a full-out sprint for
advanced fat loss, the best way to burn the belly fat is with
interval training.
Bottom line, I think we're seeing more and more that interval
training is a better approach for fat loss, especially if you are
limited by time.
Recent research from Australia has shown that intervals works
better than cardio. The female subjects did 3 workouts per week.
Group 1 did intervals for 20 minutes. Group 2 did cardio for 40
minutes. The subjects in Group 1 lost more weight (in fact, the
subjects that did the 40 minutes of cardio didn't lose any weight
at all!). So don't rely on only slow cardio for weight loss.
There is more to bodysculpting than the number of calories burned
on a machine - look at the metabolism boost, the hormone changes,
and the muscle building benefits of strength training and interval
training. Focus on the turbulence you can put on your muscles.
Too many people have wasted too much time on cardio machines and
gotten little result for their efforts. There is a "dark side to
cardio"...and we can't ignore it. Whether it's wasted time, overuse
injuries, or stubborn fat loss, long, slow cardio just isn't what
many people make it out to be...
Learn how to do interval training, and let the increased intensity
ignite your fat burning to help you blast through your stubborn fat
loss plateau.
Don't waste a single second in the gym,
Craig Ballantyne, CSCS, MS
Author, Turbulence Training
PS - Research, doctors, and experience all agree - nothing beats
interval training for a fat loss "cardio workout".
"What Craig continues to provide is concise, no-nonsense fitness
and nutrition information in an economical format. He emphasizes
client accountability and in this e-book, outlines DAY by DAY how
to achieve your goals - follow his plan to a tee, and it would be
difficult to fail. In an industry filled with so much
misinformation and fluff, it is refreshing to review such a
concise, accurate, effective program."
Dr. Shawn Thistle, DC, CSCS

"I really like your Turbulence Training program. These kind of
programs are very effective for anyone wanting to lose fat without
losing muscle. I recommend it to anyone wanting an effective way to
shed stubborn fat without wasting time or effort."

In basic human behaviour we acknowledge the existence of 4 basic radii of interaction. The closer people get, the more uncomfortable we feel, unless we know the person(s) in question really well. These basic radii are numbered 1 through 4, with 1 being the closest and the other ones being concentric to it with you being the centre.
Good walking leaves no track behind it; Good speech leaves no mark to be picked at; Good calculation makes no use of counting-slips; Good shutting makes no use of bolt and bar, And yet nobody can undo it; Good tying makes no use of rope and knot, And yet nobody can untie it.
Hence, the Sage is always good at saving men, And therefore nobody is abandoned; Always good at saving things, And therefore nothing is wasted.
This is called "following the guidance of the Inner Light."
Hence, good men are teachers of bad men, While bad men are the charge of good men. Not to revere one's teacher, Not to cherish one's charge, Is to be on the wrong road, however intelligent one may be. This is an essential tenet of the Tao.

With the move to the new server, the Warrior Pages moves closer to its intended purpose. The Warrior Pages is made up of three main sections: the main site, the forum and the store. We are now able to have posts on the forum appear on the website. We will also be adding relevant product information to match the content of the pages under a resource section. In essence, pulling the three main sections closer together into a cohesive whole.
Our Purpose:
The purpose of the Warrior Pages is to Educate, Motivate and Entertain martial artists and potential martial artists, to create camaraderie between martial artists of different styles, and to finance itself and the accumulation of knowledge necessary to keep it fresh and vibrant. The Warrior Pages will Educate through the use of articles expressing differing viewpoints of the martial arts, through videos displaying techniques, through learning activities and posting of information common to most martial arts, through regular updates via the newsletter, through reviews to make martial artists aware of useful products and those to avoid.

==============================================
Turbulence Training for Fat Loss
Brought to you by Craig Ballantyne &
http://kirkhamsebooks.com/HealthNFitness/TurbulenceFatLoss.html
============================================
Here are 5 ways to make this a great
fat-burning day...
1) Do Something You Love
If you are a beginner and you hate the gym, just do something you
love! Don't make your healthy lifestyle a prison sentence. Enjoy
what you eat and do. Just don't eat garbage and don't look at
exercise as punishment.
2) Strength Training
A very, very recent study (published in the May issue of the
Journal of Applied Physiology 102:1 767, 2007) showed that
resistance training boosts metabolism by 10% and increases fat
burning by 100%!
3) Interval Training
The latest research from Australia showed a more weight loss from
interval training than from long, slow cardio. In fact, the long,
slow cardio group didn't lose any weight. AND - this study was done
in women...so yes, Turbulence Training works for women.
Strength training and interval training are the 1-2 punch that
blowtorch fat off your body.
4) Eat 6 Small Meals of Whole, Natural Foods
Fruits and vegetables, protein, nuts, and healthy fats. It's that
simple. Don't spend another dollar on "the latest diet". You
ALREADY KNOW what to do!
5) Avoid Booze, Sugar, Trans-Fats, & Inactivity
Yeah, I know, real "secrets" here, CB. "Thanks", you're thinking
sarcastically. Listen, sometimes we just need the motivation. Maybe
there is a donut within reach, or you're thinking about watching
the tube instead of exercising, or you've got a cookie in one hand
and an apple in the other.
Let this be a simple reminder to make the right choice.
Everything you do takes you closer to OR away from fat loss,

Before I begin the history of some of the weapons, I think it is also important to know a little about the country and people of the time the first weapons were used. As I said before this info comes from many different places, and while I am sure it is not a complete history of all the weapons, it can still be interesting to learn. This history is part of the weapons history My students learn. I hope everyone enjoys it. I will have to do this in a series of posts, and it may take a while.
Peace to all,
Tae
The practice and study of the Chinese weapons, like any martial art, has value beyond just perfecting techniques. Practicing Chinese weapons requires the extensive physical training, as well as mental training. Martial arts weapons of any kind were developed for
defensive purposes, because of this practicing with them help the practitioner train perception and reaction time, which allows for quick and correct maneuvering.
Almost all weapons in the orient originated in China and subsequently exported to other cultures. In Ancient China the weapons varied greatly. This depended on the difference in terrain from one province to another, physical traits of the of different martial artists, and local culture and lifestyles.
At one time the Chinese word for weapons was bin chi which translated to mean "soldier instruments". Later this was shortened to just bin. So, chang bin would mean "long weapons", and duan bin means "short weapons". there is another term commonly used by the Chinese, this is wu chi, which translated literally means "martial instruments", or
"martial weapons".
China is a large country and encompasses many types of terrain. For example, deserts Adan high plateaus cover the northern territory, mountain ranges dominate the west, while the southeast and central parts are rich and warm with many lakes, ponds and rivers. This part of the country has been a favorite of the Chinese for 1,000's of years. The martial artists in the north tend to be a bit taller then those in the south, so they would utilize the longer, heavier weapons, the southern Chinese would adopt weapons that were shorter, and lighter because of their smaller stature. Those from the north also had kid of a Texas attitude because of the wide country side. Being much more wild and better at horse back fighting then those in the south. those in the south I guess would have had what would at one time have been considered a New England type, living in a more confined and crowded environment, they
became better at ground fighting(fighting on foot). The were were also distinctions between those of the west and those of the southeast. The western had mountains, and because of this the local people specialized in hunting, and especially with the "trident". Those who lived in the southeast because of the great agricultural palin there used the "hoe" and "harrow" for cultivation, so as a result fighting techniques eventuially developed for the how and harrow. The Chinese also have shown how all humans can adpat, or adpat anything if the need arises. Bandits were know to hit at any time without any warning, and because of this, people becamse adept with the Hoe, rake, harrow, trident, and other common tools that they could readily get their hands on for defense.

Who else is busting their butt in the gym and not getting the
results they deserve?
Almost everyone, I know, I know.
Listen, you have to fix your nutrition. No more foods from a bag or
a box. Switch over to more fruits and vegetables.
Now I know you're not just going to wake up and eat 10 servings of
vegetables tomorrow. Besides, your stomach and co-workers wouldn't
appreciate it.
But you have to make little changes every day, week, month & year.
We can always get better. So this weekend, start with one new item
from the produce aisle to help control your appetite, regulate your
blood sugar, and burn body fat.
If you want to lose fat, live longer & healthier, and have more
mental and physical energy to get through your day, you need to put
premium fuel in your body's engine.
Not grease.
Start by eating several small meals each day, focusing on protein
and fiber-rich foods.
Combine that with the short, convenient Turbulence Training
workouts and you'll feel like a million bucks.
We are all a work in progress. Never give up on your ability to
change your body at any age. Nutrition & exercise are that powerful.

PS. How fast can you change your body with TT nutrition?
"Craig, thanks to the TT Nutrition guidelines, I woke up the next
morning and already saw improvement in my whole body! Unbelievable.
I can hardly wait to see my physique after 2 weeks of Turbulence
Training."
Arthur Capone, NY
"At mid-life, pushing 300 pounds, and highly skeptical of
quick-fixes, I learned of Turbulence Training and decided it was a
program which made sense. It's about hard work, sensible eating,
and getting stronger. In less than an hour, 3 to 4 times per
week, the workouts are manageable on a busy schedule. It produced
not only weight loss of close to 60 pounds; my strength increased
rather dramatically. I have recommended the program to many men who
are seeking an efficient, yet demanding, program for fitness and
healthy eating."

These posts are primarily for publication for other websites. The more
professional you are, the more the average person will be more impressed with
the martial arts and with you as a martial artist and possibly martial arts
instructor.
Be sure to place any links you'd like to promote in your post.
NO GREETINGS please. I want to keep this published quality. Please don't be
offended if I do not approve a "howdy or aloha"
Keep subject tags on subject - again published quality
THIS IS OUR CHANCE to share our arts with the average person just looking into
martial arts.
Due to the nature of this group. Any posts or files are considered Public
Domain.
Thank you very much for being a part of this project. The potential is enormous.

Help@...
Often times the bully is put off by looks alone ! It pays to have a
padded jacket if your going into a tough neighbourhood..Avoiding a
fight should always be your first priority ,so looks are
important.bluff is your best defense if you still get attacked then
anything goes ofcourse !I found that a bit of paper padding in the
biceps area works wonders ..and sticking out your chest is like a cat
sticking up her fur...dont under estimate the power of the BLUFF !
