The result will be posted on www.northwestbadminton.org within next
few days.
The new facility was ready just in time and the weather more or less
cooperated for the 2005 WA BCD tournament.
There were about 130 entries, there're players from Alaska, Oregon,
Vancouver and many local players.
It was great to see so many players and there're quite a few players
we don't recoginze. One of these days,
I'll get all the junior name/face correctly. Carol Gitttins's
students from Edmond high school district
played their firsts tournament (besides school tournament) and they
seem to enjoy the experience.
The new facility turns out to be a great venue for the tournament.
The floor and lighting are good
and it's great to play on courts with only badminton lines. The
second floor mezzanine is a great
place to observe the match. We do wish for more courts, the last
match on Saturday finished after
1 am in the morning. The gym was still a little cold even with close
to 60 entries in the men's singles
event, it did warm up quickly in the evening with 42 entries in men's
doubles event plus all the
spectators.
We do want to thank Bellevue Badminton Club to let us use the facilty
and break in the floor/courts.
The Club also had cake for everyone on Saturday evening to celebrate
the openning.
Keo Saopasueth and Diana Tran of Vancouver won the mixed event, Shu
Ito and Tomomi Shibahara
had to default the match due to Shu's knee injury from the singles
event. Shu was able to walk
off the court, hopefully Shu will recover soon.
Greg Ung won the men's singles against Arun Chitrapu, this is Greg's
first tournament in singles.
Watch out for Greg in the coming WA closed.
Ming Ye of ProClub took the women's singles crown from Bonnie Carroll
of Alaska.
Ming also teamed up with Mei-Chin Tasi to win the women's doubles
against Bonnie and Wei Liu. Ming and
Mei-Chin did practice together last few weeks for the tournament and
Mei-Chin had to skip a party to
play the event.
Robert Chan and Zhang Yi of Orgeon took the men's doubles crown from
Kevin Yu and Jaikannan Ramamoorthy
in 3 games. They had hard fought first 2 games, Kevin/Jaikannan took
the first game, lost the 2nd and
ran out of juice on the third game.
We want to thank all the players for participating, the matches did
run longer than we anticipated, most people
were patiently waiting for their match to be called.
We also had to limit some men's singles and doubles matches to 1 game
to 21 points. There were also some residual paint fume in the gym,
since the gym floor coat was finished on Monday.
I want to thank everyone who helped to make the tournament succsessful
and the following people:
Chef Jenny and Joahnes Jies for the food/drink.
Jennie Chan topped herself on the fun design (did everyone guess the
idea behind the design ?)
Joe Leung, Daryl Yao, Connie Ho, Carla Furukawa, Hentley Liem to run
the registration desk.
Hentley (never retired) Liem for getting the t-shirts and medals.
Tao Yuan for running the tournament desk, calling the matches. He did a
great job on his first time ever.
We wouldn't be able to run the tournament smoothly without him.
Bellevue Badminton Club staffs/volunteers for keeping the gym in top
shape.
Hopefully, I did not miss anyone. See many of you at Wa Closed.
