Hello All,
Trudie is turning 55, Feb. 7th, so I'm inviting all of you to join us Sunday, Feb. 9th for a surprise birthday ride. Trudie will know we are leading the ride, but won't know about the birthday celebration until lunchtime, so "mum's" the word! (She doesn't get tandem club announcements on her email). We will be leading a really fun ride that we scoped out just this past year. We'll meet at the bayside park on Harbor Island in time for a 9 AM start. The ride will follow the Bay Loop route until we reach Imperial Beach at which point we'll continue south and west to Border Field State Park, located in the absolute southwest corner of the United States (right across the border from the Tijana Bull Ring which sits in the albsolute northwest corner of Mexico). This is kind of a surreal interesting spot where the border fence goes right out into the Pacific. You can look right through the fence and talk to people in
Mexico! Also, this part of the park is perched on a bluff that offers spectacular ocean views. After our "visit" to Mexico, we'll head back north up the strand and into Coronado for a nice lunch at Il Fornaio restaurant at the ferry landing. We can surprise Trudie at desert time by singing her Happy Birthday (no gifts please, cards optional). After lunch we'll board the ferry and head back to the cars. The ride is a nearly dead flat 40 miles, so it should be ideal for a fun day for all teams!
PLEASE RSVP to this email so I can get a "head count" and have them have a table ready for us at the restuarant. I hope you can join us! I'll send out a route sheet later next week.
