Hi everyone.
Sorry it's taken me a while to get to the ride schedule we mapped out
at the planning party two Sundays ago. And many belated thanks to Hank
and Carolyn for a wonderful ride and lunch. Hospitality with a great
ocean view, to boot.
We're still hammering out some of the details for September, so there
may be some additions, but I wanted to get this draft schedule out so
you can ink in some of the special rides/events, exploring new
territory. We have a lot of them in the next few months, and I hope
you'll be able to join us for them.
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE STILL NEED RIDE LEADERS FOR JULY 1!
Sunday, June 24: Sarah and Tony will
lead a
40-45-mile North County destination ride that starts out coastal and
touches down at both the historic 26-room Rancho Guajome Adobe and the
neighboring Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum in Vista. We've planned
our visit to coincide with the 153-year-old rancho's annual quilt show
and home arts and crafts demonstration (tatting, knitting, woodcarving,
basketry, weaving and leatherwork) and the museum's Harvest Festival.
We'll be free to explore both sites, which will feature demonstrations,
music, vendors, food, etc. One $10 ticket per person will admit us to
both sites. Food will be available at both, but we imagine most
tandemists will prefer the rancho's menu (BBQ, pasta, salads) to the
museum's (hot dogs, burgers and Polish sausage). More info in a week or
so (we're still refining the route).
Sunday, July 1: WE NEED A RIDE LEADER!
Sunday, July 15: Rich and Maggie Patterson will lead a ride.
Sunday, July 29: Lynn and Lilian Wilkirson will lead a ride.
Sunday August 12: SDTC ANNUAL RALLY!! DON'T MISS!
Sunday, August 26: (TENTATIVE) Sarah and Tony will lead a ride that
includes a visit to Quail Botanical Gardens.
Sunday, September 16: Pedal to the Park Stage 2. A fundraising ride with a mission to create a peloton
of partners to celebrate
and enjoy the recreational and social benefits of cycling for all
ages, levels and abilities.
For baseball fans, includes optional tickets to a Padres game.
Sunday, September 30: Dave and Nancy White will lead the Breath
of Fresh Air Laguna Triangle. Enjoy the local forested resources with a
loop ride from
Pine Valley, up Sunrise Highway to Mt. Laguna store, then on to the
Cuyamaca junction, Lake Cuyamaca and back to Pine Valley. 44 miles
with 4,000 feet of climbing (in very manageable pitch and placement).
If you haven't done it, you should. If you have, then we don't need
to twist your arms. Driving directions to Pine Valley will be
provided, along with route map and routeslips when the date
approaches. The group will also be able to choose from 3 lunch
options: Julian (a few extra miles), L. Cuyamaca, or Pine Valley. ride
Friday-Monday, October 5-8: Columbus Day Weekend Overnighter. Spend two
or three days enjoying some of the best cycling in Southern California.
More details as accommodations are finalized (in the works). Options
may include taking Amtrak to Ventura, with the bikes ferried by truck,
depending on interest level.
Sunday, October 21: Ralph and Gracie Alder will lead a ride in Orange
County, probably including scenic Santiago Canyon. (Note: Those of us
who have ridden extensively in Orange County can vouch that it will be
worth the drive.)
Th-th-that's, folks, at least for now. Stay tuned for more specifics.
And don't be shy about leading rides on the in-between weeks. We'd love
to have a full month's worth of rides.
Sarah
