Reply | Forward Message #536 of 1200 |
Well, folks, no one came forward to lead this Sunday's ride, so we're going to suggest that anyone who wants to ride in a group on Sunday consider joining the Ride of Remembrance (details below). If anyone is interested in joining forces as part of a SDTC group, then let me know, and we'll see if we can coordinate something.

In the meantime, we'll see you on the 23rd, for the Dana Point weekend.

And mark your calendars for October 8, for a ride (led by Sam and Sherry) and planning party (hosted once again by Rich and Maggie Patterson). Info to follow closer to the date.

Sarah

Subject: Ride of Rememberance! September 10th...

The San Diego County Bicycle Coalition requests your participation in
our 2nd Annual "Ride of Rememberance", Sunday, Sept 10th. 10:00 am
Five cyclists have been killed
in the past year on our city and county roads and 216 have been
injured.  Join members of the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition, the
San Diego Bicycle Club, the Sierra Club, the Triathlon Club of San
Diego and others in remembering our friends who have been injured or
killed.

Sunday, September 10th, 2006, 10:00 am Kearny Villa Road at Harris Plant Road, East side.

Riders will leave from a variety of locations throughout the county,
coming together between 9:30 & 10:00 am on Kearny Villa Road to
ride as many 1 mile loops as you wish beginning at approximately
10am. This site is chosen because it has been the scene of cycling
fatalities including Captain Patrick Klokow (September, 2005)  and
Larry Mahr (2003) Media organizations have promised us that they will
be there helping us spread our message...will you help too? Please join us to make a more powerful showing that Bikes Belong - Stop the Killings!

At this point group rides to the Kearny Villa Road event are planned to meet at:

Mission Bay Visitors' Center, 9:00 am departure

Del Mar Starbucks, 8:30 am departure

Normal Heights Community Center on Adams Avenue, 8:30 am departure

Mast High School, Santee, 8:30 am departure

Or create your own ride!  There is very limited car parking in this
area - so bicycle on over on your own or with a group and join us!  Light refreshments (provided by SDCBC)
and a brief program will take place at approximately 10:30 am at  the
east end of Harris Plant Road.

Last year we had approximately 500
cyclists come out for this positive sign of solidarity.  We hope to at least
double
that number this year!

Please send this to your interested friends and club members!
