The Big Event is upon us.  Below is an announcement from Kirk with the final details of the weekend.

Here's the latest info on the upcoming Borrego Blast Tandem Weekend,
Jan 21 & 22 at the Borrego Springs Resort, www.borregospringsresort.com.

There are currently 33 teams from San Diego, L.A., and Yuma planning to
attend the weekend! Other's are welcome to come at the last minute, but
should inform me by email, kirksbik@..., particularly if you
plan to attend Saturday's buffet lunch, so that I can inform the
restaurant of how many to expect.

Both Saturday's and Sunday's ride are scheduled to roll off from the
cul-de-sac in front of the Arches restaurant at the Borrego Springs
Resort at 9 AM. Please plan to start assembling there by 8:30 AM to
allow time for announcements, socializing, and photos (some cycling
press expected). Saturdays ride is a 60 miler to the Salton Sea and
back with just enough climbing (and subsequent downhill) to keep it
interesting. As this is primarily an out and back route, teams can
reverse direction at any time for a shorter ride distance. At mile 55
(and after 1 PM) there will be a soup, sandwich, salad & desert luncheon
served for us at the Crosswinds Steakhouse at the Borrego Airport. This
looks to be an enjoyable event, with quality fare and our complete run
of the open restaurant & bar area, along with the upstairs observation
deck. Cost of the luncheon is $15/person, payable at the door. This
price is all inclusive, with only alcoholic beverages costing extra.
Please support this event, as I have guaranteed the restaurant a 50
person minimum (which should be no problem with over 65 people doing
the ride).

Saturday evening, the MASCOTS are organizing a happy hour/potluck
which will be held outdoors at the Anza Borrego State Park Palm Canyon
campground. There will also be a group campfire at this gathering.

FOR THE POT LUCK WE THOUGHT BECAUSE OF THE LATE HOUR OF THE LUNCH ON SATURDAY, WE WOULD DO AN APPETIZER POT LUCK ON SATURDAY EVENING.  PLEASE BRING AN APPETIZER TO SHARE WITH THE GROUP AND A DRINK OF YOUR CHOICE.  ALSO BRING A CAMPING CHAIR TO SIT AROUND THE FIRE RING.

Sunday's ride will be shorter (30 miles), but will climb 5 mile Yaqui
Pass. This ride received rave reviews 2 years ago, as the subsequent
long decent can truly be described as "E-ticket"!

For those arriving early on Friday and looking for something to do on
Friday evening, the high quality local community theater is
showing "Underpants" a comedy written by Steve Martin. Their web site is
at www.bspac.us .  Also, anyone wanting to do a spontaneous dinner Friday night, meet in front of the hotel at 6:00 and we will decide where to go for dinner.

Route slips, along with altitude profiles, will be made available
online next week. This should be a great weekend! Trudie and I look
forward to seeing and riding with all of you then.
