It's time for a North County ride! On Sunday, the 15th, the Ortons will lead a 54-mile ride from Lawrence Welk Resort to Oceanside Harbor and back. Beginning at Lawrence Welk, we will go north on Champagne Blvd. east on Circle R for a climb up into Valley Center, over W. Lilac to Bonsall, through the lovely outskirts of Fallbrook, west on River Rd., to the San Luis Rey River Trail, and stopping at Oceanside Harbor for a bite to eat. The return is slightly deviated with more scenic views in Bonsall. For those who do not wish to climb Circle R, there is a flatter alternate route. Map details will be available at the start.
Driving directions:
Go north on Hwy 15 past Escondido & turn off at Deer Springs Rd. Go rt. at offramp & make a quick lt. onto Champagne Blvd. Turn rt at Lawrence Welk Rd, the entrance into the resort. Park on street soon after turning. Coming from Oceanside, you can take Gopher Canyon Rd. to end, & turn rt. onto Champagne Blvd.
