Sunday, March 6th Ride   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #291 of 1202 |
Hi everyone.

This Sunday, March 6th Sarah and I will be leading another variant of one of my Rancho Santa Fe rides that starts by going out Carmel Valley Road and up the coast, then inland through Rancho Santa Fe and northeast through Elfin Forest and Harmony Grove for lunch.  You'll be amazed by the transformation along the Harmony Grove road and see what this winter's rains have done to the creek. We'll return on Del Dios Hwy (Lake Hodges is now full and should be overflowing the dam, so we'll stop and gawk there) and finish up returning through Fairbanks Ranch.

The ride will be roughly 50 miles and start at 9:00a.m.,  at the Carmel Valley Recreation Center, 3777 Townsgate Drive We will have a lunch stop at Wendy's (yes, there does appear to be a fast food place with a fruit plate and salads!) in Escondido a little past the 30 mile mark.  The remainder of the ride is mostly downhill or flat, with just one significant climb up El Camino Real before the finish.

We'll also have route slips at the ride start for those wishing to zip around this course at a faster pace.
If we have localized storm clouds, there are several places where we can cut it short or make other variations to avoid bad weather.
According to some friends of Sarah's, it's rained out 15 weekends since October last year!!  And of course we're now at seasonal levels not seen since the late 1800's when records were first kept.  Once again, we have beautiful weather for most of the week and then the weekend becomes a hit or miss affair with the weather, so I've been holding off on this announcement.  The rain now looks like it will hit Friday & Saturday, ending Sunday in the wee hours. Assuming that the meteorological prognosticators and mother nature miss our target by at least a few hours, we WILL ride again this Sunday.  Please hang in there as the last time we tried this it looked very much like rain so we altered the route on the fly and missed most of it (just a little drizzle in fact) and the rest of it was a great ride (thanks to Kirk and Trudie for keeping us going). We'll keep an eye out and update the ride info by email early Sunday morning if appropriate; any solid rain will cancel.  Keep your fingers crossed!

To get to the Carmel Valley Rec Center, Exit I-5 at Del Mar Heights and head east to El Camino Real. Turn right on El Camino Real to Townsgate (it's a light, just past the shopping center). Turn left on Townsgate, head up the hill briefly and turn right into the rec center parking lot.  We'll park near the entrance and away from the playing fields.

Any questions? Call me at 858-509-9808.
Come join us for another adventure!

Tony
