Bicycling Courses being offered by SDCBC.   Message List

As you may have read in the latest "ChainGard", SDCBC has won a $30,000
contract with the City of San Diego to provide bicycle safety
training. The funds were provided through a the San Diego Association of
Governments (SANDAG) grant. As a result SDCBC is greatly expanding their
bicycling training program with a variety of programs. This is a great
opportunity for bicyclists in the San Diego area.

One of the programs being offered is a continuing series of "Bike for Life"
or "Street Skills" cycling courses. The first Bike for Life course is
starting January 15th. It will be held on three consecutive Saturdays,
January 15th, 22nd and 29th. The classes are 9:00 am - noon and will be
held in the Clairemont area of San Diego (Just west of I-805 & Clairemont
Mesa Blvd.). Class size will be limited to no more than 10 people. As
those of you who may have seen my class notices before know, the fee for
the nine-hours of instruction is usually $50, but thanks to the SANDAG
grant, it's FREE! If you ever considered taking the class this is a great
time to do it!

If you can't make the January class, we're doing it again in
February! And, although not yet scheduled, we are also planning classes
for March and April, although one of those classes may be an "Advanced
Street Skills" class that the "Bike for Life" class is a prerequisite for.

What will you learn in Bike for Life? How to operate a bicycle legally and
safely on the streets without being constantly "scared to death". How to
shift a multi-speed bicycle properly and effectively, how to perform a
bicycle safety check and how to fix a flat tire. You will also learn
emergency bicycle handling skills and crash avoidance techniques. The
class includes both classroom discussion and on-bike practice. You can
even benefit from this course if you "already know how to ride a bicycle"
by learning proper techniques to avoid dangerous situations before they
develop.
