San Diego Tandem Club-    Jan 9 Ride

Dear San Diego Tandem Club riders:

This Sunday's ride will be about a 43-miler starting from the north Sears parking lot in northern La Jolla at 9:00 am, going north on Torrey Pines to Carmel Valley Road, east to the 56 bike path, east to Black Mountain Road, then around to Rancho Sante Fe, back south up the Torrey Pines grade to our starting point.  The detailed itinerary for the ride is Attached.    Please print it out if you can.  Additional copies will be available, if necessary, at the start of the ride.

At present there is a reasonable possibility of rain on the 9th.  Therefore please access your email on late Saturday or very early Sunday morning for the final go or no-go decision.

The meeting place is in the west corner of the parking lot just to the north of the Sears store, in the University Towne Center (UTC), La Jolla.   UTC is located on the south side of La Village Drive, just east of Genessee.  From outside of La Jolla, UTC can be reached by exiting from U.S. #5 at La Jolla Village Drive and going east about 2 miles, or exiting from #805 at the Mirimar/La Jolla Village exit and going west about 1 mile.  Please arrive shortly after 8:30 am so you can be prepared to start the ride at 9:00 am.

Rest rooms are available about 200 yards from the parking lot inside the centrally located food court.

Riding distances given are approximate, and represent an average of bike and auto records.

Only a few restaurants are open in Rancho Sante Fe on Sunday for an early lunch.  Service at the Rancho Sante Fe Inn is very slow, and the Inn is not recommended for that reason.  Two other places are possible:  the Positano and the Bolero, both located on the main street.    If the group is willing, we can plan to stop for about an hour lunch break.
