Hi everyone.
Sorry for the delay in getting the specifics out to you regarding this
Sunday's SDTC ride.
Tony and I are going to lead* a 35-ish-mile excursion that takes in the
Carmel Valley bike trail, then continues east to explore some of the
area's newest housing developments (think wide roads) before entering
Fairbanks Ranch. We'll then loop through Rancho Santa Fe and head out to
the coast for a cruise back to the start. We're planning to avoid long,
difficult hills (final route is still being firmed up, which tells you
what Tony's doing tomorrow), but there's no way to make this completely
flat. The scenery and company will more than make up for any exertion,
we promise, and it won't be brutal, in any case.
Since the votes came in in favor of the Carmel Valley Recreation Center
as the ride start (you don't like climbing Del Mar Heights!), that's
where we'll begin the adventure. Anyone who's interested and/or hungry
can join us afterward for a great (cheap) Greek/Persian lunch at Alborz,
in the Del Mar Heights Shopping Center.
Where: Carmel Valley Recreation Center at Townsgate and El Camino Real
When: 8:45 for a 9:00 start
Directions: From I-5, exit at Del Mar Heights and head east half a mile
to El Camino Real. Turn right on El Camino Real and left on Townsgate
(it's the second light, just after the Del Mar Highlands shopping
center). Turn right into the recreation center's parking lot, partway up
the hill. (If you get to the library, on the same side of the street,
you've gone too far. If you park in the lot at the bottom of the hill,
where there is no building visible, you haven't gone far enough.) We'll
gather by the large, colorful jungle gym.
We hope to see lots of you there. The weather is supposed to be
gorgeous, and this is a great time of year to enjoy RSF and environs.
Sarah
*Actually, Tony's going to do the leading, since on the tandem all I do
is follow along wherever he's going.
