Hi SDTC,
I visited with Dave and Betty this morning for about a half hour. It had
been at least three weeks since I had seen Betty. She looked terrific in a
new outfit of black stretch excercise shorts and a black and white stretch
cotton long sleeve tee (this stuff is important, right stokers?!).
Dave was just helping her into her wheelchair when I arrived just before PT.
She was telling him how the OT had let her fold all the stuff in her
drawers this morning that Dave usually just throws in. They had a good
laugh about her being the neat and organized one.
I followed them down to PT and met her therapist. They have a wonderful
relationship of mutual respect. Also, no more neck brace and it looked like
no back brace either.
Betty works incredibly hard during therapy sessions. Todays focus was on
standing, holding on with both hands to the bar(s) and moving her legs as
she walks the parallel bars. Dave and PT help and encourage continually. She
is using both hands and the strength in her right hand seems to be lots
stronger than couple of months ago.
Dave looks great and he can get Betty to work harder and harder. The
dialogue went something like this " David, I'm getting tired". "Three more
leg lifts, Betty" And she does it!! What a team!
When you stop in for a visit know that it's lots easier to park on the
street. Or, better yet, just bike down. take care, Steve
