This has 48 speeds! Along with the 3x7 SRAM hub and Shimano 105 STIs,
I've added a Shimano 105 front derailleur and a Shimano Exage bar top
friction shifter to produce 110.3 – 23.9 gear inches (see
http://sheldonbrown.com/gears ). Enough gears to keep up with big
wheeled road bikes and fast recumbent tandems and climb Torrey Pines Hill.
