Hello Everyone,

 

I can't guaranty you that this week's ride will be a cake walk, but I can assure you it will at least be a picnic! As Trudie says, this should be great training for those headed to Italy in a few weeks! We tried this last Sunday and really enjoyed the day. Start by packing yourselves a picnic lunch that you can take on your bike (we took sandwiches, apples, and O'doul's last week) and meet us at the College Ave. entrance to the San Luis Rey River bike path in time to roll off by 10 AM. (The extra hour should give you plenty of time to throw together that gourmet picnic lunch!) Sam assures me that there is now a new expanded parking lot and a nice restroom right there at the College Ave. start, so this should make things easy. We'll follow Sam's "Cool & Breezy Easy 50" route into Oceanside Harbor (the bridge is now complete) for a quick re-group at the Nautical Bean. Anyone wishing to ride 35 miles, instead of the full 50, can meet us there by about 10:30. From the harbor, we'll continue north through Pendleton (don't forget that ID!) and stop at the shaded picnic tables at the far end of the State campground for an unhurried picnic lunch. After we've digested our food and schmoozed sufficiently, we'll reverse our path and head back to the cars. It should be a great day!! Sam's links to maps and route sheets are below.
