Hey Dan,
July 25th. Hopefully the snow will be gone, and the heat and humidity!
I will put it on my schedule and start working in that direction as well!
Can you make a birdcage for the Masters champ? Ha!
Great to hear from you!

John, if you going to do a "strend" in April....you' ll be all ready for the one
in Syracuse. July 25th.2009 . I know you like staying in those cheesy hotels but
you must stay with me.I've got the room. The snow should be gone by
then.....maybe. The run has always been the hardest for me. along with the chin,
dips, pullups, bench, behind the neckers, my real forte is the after strend
party. I'm hoping you can make it and take home a birdhouse.
Peace Brother!

Geeez Steve. I am going to get a big head with those kind words. Ed is the real
master of all of this.
For me it is more a matter of survival. As you get older, the game changes. You
have to be lot more careful about training--just to avoid getting injured. When
I started training for Strend 10 years ago, the body could take a lot more
punishment. Now at 55--almost 56, it is all about training consistently and
staying healthy. I generally do two Strend type workouts a week--at varying
degrees of intensity depending on how I feel. I use the Strend body weights and
avoid using extra weight--which is a good way to hurt yourself. It seems to work
as I have been able to maintain my conditioning and continue to pole vault as
well.
My Strend goal is do to get a regulation Stend score (at least 8 reps of each
and a sub 24 3 mile.) when I am 60. Pullups, chins, military and dips are easy.
Benching, which has always been my weakest set, and the run are going to be the
hardest of the exercises to maintain.
But it is all fun!! And competing with our group at our competitions is a lot of
fun! What a great group of athletes!
Have a good one everyone!

can you all tell me....If you are training strend only...how many days a week do
you train,,and how many are strend days? If you do chest and back on mon,..no
sense doing a strend on tues right?
I did train a lot for strend 2 yrs ago when Ed was going to have one...i did 3 a
week for about 4 months....burned out and hated it after awhile..
tried doing heavy ones and light ones..but over did it...
john carmony has helped me a ton..he seems to be the best qualified to teach on
this issue...he is very balanced and does a lot of things well..
but I still dont get the balance of how to mix strend training with other
things...I do a lot of cleans, squats, heavy dips, and basic whole body
lifting..
but its not body building,..and its soo tiring...dont know how to incorporate
strend...
oh well..
thanks for any help everyone

Chris,
April 26th works just fine for me.
Matt, I don't remember where in Livermore we had the event back in
2003 but that seemed to work well. The out and back course was
relatively flat and fast so I think that would definitely be a good
candidate.
I recently started working at 24 Hour Fitness here in Sacramento which
has been good for both my training and recruiting possible new
STRENDers...
So, once the details are hammered out let me know and I can definitely
help with promoting the event in the Sacramento area!

otherwise, requires-upwards of 2,000,0000 of event insurance,
permission from the Unified school district, special requirements by
the school, including on site EMT and if the bathrooms or lockerooms
are used, you have to pay for at least 1 janitor for 8 hours
regardless of the length of the event, there is also parking issues
and the general public to consider. Coordinating your event around
the numerous sports and other activities is near impossible. The best
alternative for a local strend is an out and back flat run on the road,
