Matt,
Matt,
Wow, those costs and regulations are pretty prohibitive. What I'll do in
shooting for host
is to find an exercise facility in Los Gatos or Campbell. There is flat running
path that runs
along the creek that abuts both cities. Any other place in San Jose--in terms of
traffic and
generally dreary running conditions--wouldn't work.
Livermore would work well too. Only one range of hills over from the Bay Area.
Probably
easier to find an out and back three mile not plagued by traffic.
Over the next couple weeks I'll try to come up with a host here and then we'll
compare notes
and see what we want to do. April 26th sounds good. How about you other
Strenders?
John, Greg, Gurjit? How does that work?
Keep Strending,
Chris

April 26th, shooting for a host: Anytime fitness or Fitness together in
Livermore.
Remember the problem with running on a track be it Highschool or otherwise,
requires-upwards of 2,000,0000 of event insurance, permission from the Unified
school district, special requirements by the school, including on site EMT and
if the bathrooms or lockerooms are used, you have to pay for at least 1 janitor
for 8 hours regardless of the length of the event, there is also parking issues
and the general public to consider. Coordinating your event around the
numerous sports and other activities is near impossible. The best alternative
for a local strend is an out and back flat run on the road,

Good morning Strenders!
So here’s what I’m thinking. Let’s have the Strend in the
Bay Area. A few main reasons why:
1. The climate is great and there are many all-weather tracks we could use
(Kezar Stadium, Campbell Community Center, etc.)
2. According to a recent study, San Francisco was found to be the fittest
city
in the U.S.(http://www.reuters.com/article/lifestyleMolt/idUSN3043573820080530).
With a total of 4.5 million residents, the Bay Area is in general a very fit
place. We should be able to recruit quite a few new Strenders.
3. Whether we hold the Strend in San Jose or in San Francisco, we’ll be near
three major airports (Oakland, San Jose, San Francisco.) Getting here and about
will be easy for those Strenders coming from out of town.
4. After sending your pulse into the stratosphere, you can spend the rest of
the weekend enjoying San Francisco, one of the most photogenic cities in the
world. Or, for those still jonesing a fitness-induced endorphin high, hundreds
of miles of scenic trail hiking.
My goal would be to find a local gym/sponsor who’d be
willing to host the Strend. There are many smaller gyms throughout the Bay Area
that specialize in training elite, high-level athletes and/or giving clients
personalized 1:1 attention.
Of course, I’d love to get any other Strenders help when it
comes to organizing this event—finding a sponsor, T-shirts, making sure this
goes off smoothly, marketing, approaching local newspapers/TV stations.
As for the date, April 26th sounds perfect.
Who’s in? Let’s make this happen!

Does that date seem to work for the Next STREND?

Welcome Dennis!
It's always great to have another Strender.
As for getting those reps up there (as well as for that running time down
there) there are a variety of approaches. One straightforward way is to do trial
Strends. I often do these in the gym, substituting the treadmill for the track.
In terms of the disciplines, each one differs a little. I've found that if I
add a little bit of resistance this usually increase the number of reps I can
do. For pull-ups I put a 20/30 dumbbell between my ankles. For military press,
the thing that works best for me is to head-stand push ups against the wall
first thing in the morning, going to near failure.
With many of the Strend exercises, I've found that going to repeated
failure (back-to-back set of pull-ups for instance) doesn't necessarily add
more reps. Additionally, you want to give your body rest. Doing Strends on
consecutive days, while a good fitness rush, hasn't led to increased reps
for me. Once every ten days on trial Strends is pretty ideal. Again there are a
variety of approaches. Definitely experiment and let us know what works best for
you.
Again, welcome and good luck strending.

What's your name? Dennis
How you were introduced to STREND? Found it browsing fitness sites.
Have you ever competed in a STREND Fitness Challenge? I have not competed yet,
however I am interested in competing this year. Any help with specific training
routines would be appreciated.
