Hi Matt, I am doing quite well thanks. I had a good triathlon season,
and I am mainly running and lifting now.
I was thinking of the two hand hang and yes I can see how the relax
and stretch would make a big difference. However, I think at least
one category would be two hands unassisted however you want to hang.
I am not surprised that five minutes is possible (but is impressive).
What I did was two hands without breaks. I'll have to try this other
strategy.
One arm is definately more brutal. I went down to the basement to see
how long I could do a one arm hang and I lasted a minute on my right
arm. Obviously with training that can be extended. My left arm was a
lot less interested in this however.
From a biology standpoint what is hard about hanging is that we are
asking primarily fast twitch muscle in the forearm to perform a slow
twitch task. These forearm muscles are almost never activated in this
(slow twitch) fashion.

Dale about the two arm hang (which I believe you are taking about), I
made the comment that there are several guys including Hywell in
England who have hung well over 5:00 with both arms, but not to
forget are we making a distinction as to whether they are letting go
and hanging with one arm for 5 or 10 seconds and shaking out the
other arm, in order to give it a rest and then back and forth. I did
that for a quite a long time once, but did not time it, I never let
go of the bar, but found that by also periodically switching grips,
for supinated, to pronated, to neutral that once can hang quite a
long while. That is why I went with the one arm hang, unassisted and
of course no straps, I just do bare hand to failure. So with the two
arm hang, there has to be rules. Both hands on the bar at all
times?, no switching grips?, moving hands out and back if possible to
different widths?
