Hi Raina,

1. By all means, go and participate. You will feel like a champ just getting
through the competition and you will learn three times as much as opposed to
just watching. You have to remember that you are really competing against
yourself. There is always going to be somebody a little stronger or faster out
there, but the important thing is what you do for yourself. Set a goal for
yourself and see if you can get there. It may be a challenge for you just to
get through the whole competition. But the important thing is to start working
at it and keep after it. If you are willing to put in a couple of years of
dedication to STREND, you will be amazed at your improvement. The competitions
are just the gravy!! Ed, Carol, Matt, Mark, Greg, Randall, and a host of others
are all great athletes. You will be inspired and your training will be enriched
by meeting them.

2. Just watch the STREND website for other challenges. Generally, Ed puts on a
couple out in Hawaii and Leslie Trotter puts on a great one up in Canada, plus
the Mid-America in Minnesota has been a yearly event and gets high praise. If
the Sacramento one goes well, maybe we can talk Mark and Matt into putting on
another one this fall. The CA events always have a good turn-out. Miramar use
to have a great one, but it was not put on last year because of the troop
deployments. Hopefully it will come back.

3. Sorry, beyond my expertise here, but maybe somebody else knows what to do.
(Matt, Leslie--help!) Personally, I would do a lot of reps with a lighter
weight and try to build up the muscle before moving to a heavier weight. But
that is just me!!

Thank you for the advice.

Question: Should I enter the Sacramento STREND comp
(Basic level) even though I'm not sure I'll be
completely ready? I am working really hard, but was
planning more for a summertime competition. April 3
is pretty close. Would you recommend it just for the
experience? Or should I just go watch?

Question 2: Are there any other STREND events planned
for this year? I'm in CA, so here, NV, AZ, or OR
would be best. But, I also have family in the Midwest
that I could visit if there is one out there (is the
Minnesota one every year?)

Question 3: When doing the military press I feel
something in my elbow "pop". Kinda like a tendon
sliding or something. Doesn't hurt, just feels weird.
It was suggested to me to do stabilization exercises.
What do any of you recommend?
