What an incredible tournament! So many great stories, from CBC's surprise run,
to FHC squeaking by Warrensburg to reach the semifinals, to an epic 15-13 battle
for the championship, it was just . . . ah . . . no words.

Anyhow, next up is the SLUJ All-star game, and several teams have not yet
nominated their all-stars.

Desmet (and JV), Kirkwood, Marquette, Parkway North, Priory, and Vashon, PLEASE
CHOOSE YOUR ALL-STARS, GET A COMMITMENT FROM THEM TO SHOW UP AT THE GAME, AND
PUT THEIR NAMES IN THE ALL-STARS DATABASE.

The record was 1-1 (North-South), but the divisions have shifted this year, so
we'll reset the tally. This game is always a treat to watch and a great
experience for the participants, too.

Chris, are we planning to have food and such this year?

Priory has two fields. FHC can make two. CBC can make two narrow ones, but only
for two hours, so there out. I would like to see if I have a better alternative
than the long drive to FHC. Also, we are going to have 11 teams, so there will
probably be two pools of 4 and one pool of three. I'm hoping Parkway North will
host the small one, but it may be somewhere else depending on where the rankings
fall. If you have any chance of having two fields(3 would be awesome) let me
know. Clayton? do you even read these messages?

Coaches,

Three things:

1. Originally I scheduled in-division crossover games for the Blue division on
April 19th. Some coaches have indicated both a struggle to reschedule games,
and an apathy for playing a in-division team a second time. For these reasons,
I think it would be best not to schedule games for the 19th. Teams can use this
time for scrimmages, make-ups, or take a break.

2. April 26th we are to have double header games. I need sites where we can
have two fields on those dates. Any school that knows they can host two fields
for 4 hours on the 26th, let me know.

3. Regarding the double headers,we will have 12 teams participating in the
double header games (SLUH is out of town) I will be scheduling three sites that
will host four teams(two from each division) teams will play across divisions
based on their standings. for instance, red one will play Blue 2 then Blue 1
while red 2 plays blue 1 then blue 2.

My shots from the sidelines of the Coaches' game are up ... check them out via the PHOTOS link to the left. Coaches especially -- enjoy your return to the glory of the spotlight! I'm told Jason Becker is particularly pleased with his prominently-featured place beneath the armpits of numerous SLUJ players is several of the shots ... There's also the promised vintage Jack Curran shot.

Yo Jack,

Thanks for the reply and the support -- it's a good cause, I think. As for your
photo in the book, stay posted for my next photo upload from SLUJ-Bucket -- I
contacted the publisher to get permission to upload a scan of that very photo!

hey, I know this is pretty dated and that I'm old now, but does anybody by
chance have the highlight reel of the 2007 all star game. I was trying to find
it on youtube but it's probably long since gone. Thanks for any help!

I became aware of this project through a recent e-mail contact with Joe Seidler, publisher of the DEFINITIVE history of the game -- ULTIMATE: THE FIRST FOUR DECADES, published 2005 by Ultimate History, Inc. -- ISBN 0-9764496-0-9)

Many places around the globe are at war with each other and it never seems to end. Well, a fellow Ultimate player has decided to do something about it -

David Barkan has led and played on The Jam (1979-1980: SF South Bay), Hostages (1980-84: Boston), East Bay Firestorm (1988-91: Oakland), Double Happiness (1992-1995: San Francisco), and Matza Balls (1995- present: SF Bay Area).

Last year David co-founded the Ultimate Peace organization whose mission is to bring youth in war torn areas around the globe together through Ultimate, and for their first project is working with the Peres Center for Peace in Israel. They are traveling to the area in April 2009 and will lead a youth Ultimate training and leadership program with hundreds of disadvantaged Israeli and Palestinian kids who would likely otherwise see the other only as an enemy. The American coaches will convene a clinic and tournament with all the kids and their respective coaches in Tel Aviv, then travel to the various communities and continue the work locally. The goal is let these young people play Ultimate with each other and learn they can all get along.

Dear Ultimate Peace Friend and Supporter,

We want you to know that, due to your generous support, Ultimate Peace is now underway. It has been a very challenging but exciting endeavor, trying to raise enough money and in-kind donations to produce this huge event in just a few months. But with your help, we did it. Around $50,000 in cash and well over $40,000 of in-kind donations. Over 360 donations... Amazing!

Now to the really exciting part. As most of us prepare to travel to Tel Aviv on March 30th, a few members of Team U.P. are already traveling around to the Israeli and Palestinian villages where our kids live, meeting them, throwing the disc around, and firing them up for the big events next week. They are also meeting and bonding with their basketball coaches, who are charged up and will participate in the events too.

It is hard to believe, but next week we will doing what we dreamed about - taking 21 coaches to the Middle East to work with 150 Palestinian and Israeli teens. The events will be held in the most populated park in Tel Aviv, where thousands of people on their Passover vacation are expected to stroll by and watch Ultimate Peace in full effect. Israeli TV will be there, CNN international will cover it, and who knows who else.

And here is the big news - all the activities on the 2nd with the teens will be broadcast live over the internet.

http://www.liveu.tv/ultimatepeace.html

The opening ceremony will begin between 10 am and 11 am local time. Don't miss it. Please be there with us to share this momentous event. The whole day will be fun to watch, so check it out.

Also, please use this link, which will serve as our blog. http://www.facebook.com/UltimatePeace. You can read about and see pictures of Ultimate Peace.

I know this is a long shot, but does anyone want to come play FHC Varsity this
Saturday, 4/4, at 10AM? We don't have a game this week due to schedule changes.

Jason.
