Pete and Dan,
You have found the right place for your HS team to get into the league. The only thing you'll need to do is be sure you are playing by the rules. We follow the UPA's 10th Edition rules, downloadable on www.upa.org.
To catch up to what other teams in the area are doing and to make sense of the rules of Ultimate, I'd suggest a clinic. That is, let me know when and where you practice. I show up with a few other players, set up a field, and play. We stop play to point out some obvious fouls. Screens or picks and any contact is not allowed and you'll need to know what to do when that happens on the field, because it will happen.
After a 2-hour clinic, you'll be well on your way to competing. Before the Spring league starts, we can schedule an advanced clinic to work on some more strategic stuff, like zone defense, breaking a zone, and end zone plays. You will need to practice as often as possible between now and next Spring. The weather is ideal for a clinic.
I play on Saturday at 3:00 at Bohrer Park on Lindburg south of Tesson Ferry. After our game, like 5:00 we still have an hour or more of daylight if you'd like to show up with your teams and play a casual game to get you started. You can watch the second half of our game then plenty of experienced folks will be around to join your game. Even if only you captains make it, it will still be valuable.
Let me know if you or any of your players can make that first session and let me know when and where your normal practice is held. You'll want 14 on your team if you can get it. Webster, you have Timo Linck, the son of a UPA national champion who has been raised eating out of a frisbee rather than a plate. If you don't know him, you should find him...I think he's a Sophomore.
Stay in touch,
Stay in touch,
Buck
