Hiking Trip: Mohonk Preserve

For your NY friends, maybe you could forward this as well....

Three weeks ago I went on a hiking day trip to the Mohonk Preserve in
Upstate NY (about 90 miles from NYC) with a few friends. It was such
a great experience, it should definitely be done more often...

So, I'm organizing the next trip for either Saturday, May 31st or
Sunday, June 1st for everyone who feels like leaving the city and
doesn't have access to a car....

Diamond Dogs -

I'm a member of the NYC Ballet Business & Professional Committee, and we
have an event on June 6th to raise money for the Dancer's Emergency Relief
Fund.

June 6th is an open bar cocktail party, with upscale wine donated by local
stores, a buffet dinner donated by Tavern on the Green, and orchestra seats
to the ballet.  During the cocktail party, they have 4 members of the corps
come and talk about the dance. There are also backstage tours and a raffle
for some high-end gifts.

Its $85 a ticket, which, since it includes drinks, dinner and a performance,
is a pretty reasonable night out.  Plus, the non-ticket price is
tax-deductible.

The ballet that nite includes 3 works: one by Balanchine, one by Bigonzetti,
and one by Jerome Robbins.  "Square Dance", "Vespro" and "Glass Pieces."
"Glass Pieces" is set to music by Philip Glass.

The cocktail party/buffet supper begins at 5:30, and will run until 7:30.
The performance begins at 8.


The Dancers' Emergency Relief Fund provides fiancial resources for sick or
injured City Ballet dancers.


I was first involved in the organization for their January event, and I
found it to be a great evening out.

The Bloomin' Metric

If anyone is interested in spending Sunday, May 18th riding thru some of
Conn's better shoreline, the Bloomin' Metric is a fun bike tour -  I think
about 2,000 people all told participate.

There are three great scenic rides in the Spring of 2003 - 25 miles, 75
kilometers and 100 kilometers, but the longer rides tend to be prettier.
The bike tour starts and ends at a train stop, so you don't need a car to
get there, but I'll be driving up, and I have a bike rack, so if anyone
needs a ride let me know.

$20 if you enter by May 11th.

Sunday is Bike New York, a chance to ride the 5 boroughs with 30,000 other
cyclists.  If you are interested we are planning to meet before the start,
location to be determined tomorrow.  The problem being 30,000 other riders doing
the same thing.

The ride is casual, but 42 miles, so your bicycle should be in good working
order.  Helmets are must, I am almost positive you cannot ride without one.  You
will need a water bottle or camelback.  There are multiple rest stops that are
supposed to have snacks, but powerbar type snacks are always a good idea.  Wear
appropriate clothing including padded shorts.  Hey its a 4-5 hour ride why
suffer.  In addition bring a spare tube. Patches work, but a tube is much more
