Russell Crap over at Princeton Ski Shop informed me that they would no longer be honoring any discount for the Metro New York Ski Council, and by proxy our own Ski Club. Not only that, he took it a step further and was rather insulting about the whole thing, saying it was silly for us to assume the deal would carry over from year to year.
Well, I certainly feel silly about this... NOT!
So I'd like to encourage you all who may or may not be in the market to get some gear this fall to patronize the shops that actually respect their clientele.
Shops that offer discounts and are not rude to us include:
10% off everything in the store (except sale items) & services all year. Contact: Bill or Paul, owners.
Panda Ski Shop 9213 5th Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11209, (718) 238-4919.

Sundown Ski & Sport Shop 47 Northern Blvd., Greenvale, NY (516) 621-6668.
10% off non-sale items.
Princeton Ski Shops - WAIT A MINUTE?!?! - NO DISCOUNT FOR YOU!!!
Hey - while we're at it. Please let him know your displeasure! Tell him you won't buy another thing in his stores until he apologizes to the
Diamond Dogs Ski Club. You can email him directly at RussellC@.... He seems to love email!
Ski Stop Inc. www.skistop.com 197 S. Service Road of the L.I.E., Plainview, NY, (516) 249-7980.

On Las Lenas: Tucked away deep in the
Andes resides South Americas biggest and certainly one of the worlds most diverse mountain resorts. Las Lenas, Argentina. This resort is huge with over 40 miles of trails and a vertical drop of some 4,000 feet with 50% Advanced/Expert terrain and 50% Intermediate/Beginner terrain.
With 12 lifts serving 43,200 acres and a hotel capacity for only 3,500 guests, you will find these slopes are not crowded and newly fallen snow remains untracked for days after a storm. Completely above tree line, the resort offers huge open bowls, long steep chutes as well as wide open groomed runs to satisfy skiers of all levels.
The mountain is divided into two areas- the Lower Mountain and Upper Mountain. The lower mountain is served by 8 lifts and offers a wide variety of beginner and intermediate terrain with many groomed options as well. The upper mountain is served by 4 lifts and offers options in every Direction. This
is where the goods are for advanced skiers. Hugh open bowls and steep chutes that will satisfy the most hardcore skiers and riders. Las Lenas offers some groomed runs off the top and the views are spectacular.
The Las Lenas Resort is a small self-contained village with a variety of hotels and condominiums scattered across the valley floor. Resort amenities include a casino, nightclub, Movie Theater, game room and pool tables, supermarket and drug store, snow tubing hill and several restaurants and night spots.
If you still have legs after a day on the mountain, Argentina's famous late night bar and disco scene lives strong here in the Las Lenas Valley. It is not uncommon to see folks pouring out of the discotec as you are about to make your first powder turns of the day! This leaves Las Lenas literally crowd free for hours. Las Lenas is indeed an unreal experience, and we get you there for a solid week
of some of the best alpine terrain, extreme skiing, and powder on Earth! Viva Las Lenas!
On The Hotel Escorpio: The Escorpio is located right at the base, making everything extremely close walking distance. The hotel offers single, double and triple occupancy rooms. All rooms feature color TV, full private bath, safe deposit box, in-room phones, laundry service and daily housekeeping. The base and the main lift Venus are located just outside your large window, you just open it and slide down in the snow with your skis.
The friendly staff
at the ski storage take your skis and snowboards as well as your boots which are placed on a very large boot heater that allows you to have dry and warm boots the next morning of your ski day. The staff also securely stores your shoes or slippers that you use to walk from your room to the storage area and back, all you have to do is give them your room number. The staff at the ski storage can take care of your ski or board to be repaired overnight to fix any scrapes or bruises your equipment may have received or simply for a waxing and sharpening. It costs approx. $50 pesos for a complete repair that includes sharpening, waxing, and complete repair.
Pay the staff in cash as they send them out to the Repair Shop and it is not done in the hotel. Be sure to tip the staff at the ski storage at the end of the week, they will not expect it but they definitely deserve it.
FYI - To everyone attending tomorrow night - there is a dress code.
So you people with hats... You know who you are... You've been warned!

BULLS BRIDGE - Springtime Rafting in Connecticut's Most Dramatic Gorge! - Advanced
Located in the hills of northwestern Connecticut, Bulls Bridge on the Housatonic River holds some of the most challenging rapids and the most beautiful scenery in the state. Putting in under a covered bridge just downstream of a class V cataract, we quickly enter the Flume where the water races around a sharp bend and over a 7-foot ledge, emerging as froth and waves below. S-Turn is next with a tight move over a ledge which is immediately followed by Pencil Sharpener where grabby holes reach for the boat. Below, easier rapids lead to Powerhouse hole and the takeout rapid.
After lunch back at the covered bridge, we challenge the run for a second time, perfecting lines for the ultimate spring whitewater
experience.
Cost: $135 Price includes: round trip Transport from NYC ! Professionally guided raft trip, 5 hours on the river, complimentary wetsuits, picnic-style lunch served by the river, slideshow of your day's adventure.
