I apologize if I've spammed you about this already, but I am excited.
I entered my thesis project, Fastronauts, in Core77's Greener Gadget
competition, and it is online for voting. I'd love it if you could
check it out - (
http://www.core77.com/greenergadgets/entry.php?projectid=25 ). And if
you want to, vote and pass it on. And thank you to everyone who helped
with the project - I couldn't have done it without you.
Info on the project:
I studied kids and toys for a year (rough, I know) and designed a
series of toys to tackle childhood obesity and disposable batteries in
landfill. Powered by play, each figure has a rechargeable battery, and
each vehicle has a dynamo. Plug a Fastronaut into the handheld moon
cruiser and roll for lights and sounds. Plug a Fastronaut into the
bike-mounted rocket and pedal to power lights, sounds, a speedometer
and an odometer. Each Fastronaut has a power indicator that can be
pressed to make the figure talk. Children get instant feedback as they
create energy, and that is strong motivation to be active.
A recent medical study showed that giving a pedometer to people
encourages them to walk a mile further every day. Fastronauts are like
pedometers, but taken to a whole new level. Children will want to
exercise, and they will feel empowered as they charge up their toys.
Best of all, Fastronauts give children direct, personal experience
with energy generation and conservation.
Fastronauts were specifically designed for 5-year-olds, but the
concept can be adapted for older or younger children. The toys
themselves can be aged up or down. The battery assembly can be
removed, the shell recycled, and new toys created.
Thanks!
You know I'm not big on the sappy requests, but here goes...
As some of you know I have been mentoring a young, at-risk girl for the past three years and well, she's now a young lady and going to college! It's been a long road for Jeanette, but she has managed to get her GED while working, living on her own and acting as pseudo parent to her two younger siblings (yes, I'm quite proud!). Now she is attending college and attempting to make ends meet. Which brings me to a request on her behalf, she is in need of a laptop computer to complete homework and her online classes. As we all know, times are a bit tough at the moment and computers are not cheap :)
Have you (or maybe your company/organization) recently upgraded to a new laptop and are trying to
figure out what to do with the older, fully functional one? If the answer is yes, I would love to talk to you!!! Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Emilia
PS Please feel free to forward to others who may be able to help :)
One of our players is looking for rides to Sunset on Tuesdays. It took her 1.5 hours to get there last night via public transit. Can anyone help her out? Lemme know.
Some friends and me are thinking about putting together a team for the UPA falls series and playing in sectionals and regionals. We'll practice enough over the next few weeks to familiarize everyone with ourselves.
The offense will heavily emphasis motion offense and defense will primarily be match-up zone defense with some normal zone thrown in.
Email me if you're interested. State preference of location. We're in the South Bay.
Hello all,
I am moving to SF on August 20th. I would love to pick up on an elite
team for the labor day tourney. I've been playing in Madison WI for
six years, and also have some club series experience. Looking to get
involved with fun and experienced players in the area. Also, if there
is a better way to get hooked up with a team then this yahoo group,
please let me know. Any help would be appreciated...truly appreciated.
Thanks
Eric
The Australian men's team is barnstorming through California on its way to Vancouver for Worlds in August.
Revolver will face off against the Aussies (who figure to finish top 4 at Worlds!) on Sunday at 1pm at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale (999 E Caribbean Dr in Sunnyvale, CA 94089). We'll have some cold drinks on the sideline, and welcome any Ultimate fans who want to stop by to come, cheer, heckle, etc.
The forecast is beautiful - hope to see many there!
I’m moving soon to the Oakland area and have been
looking for health clubs with a lap pool and racquetball courts and the only
ones I can find are the YMCA and Club One in downtown Oakland, and Mariner Square
Athletic Club in Alameda. Does anyone know of any others, especially near
Piedmont and Lake Merritt areas?
I referred this guy below to SFUL.org for pick-up when he’s in
town. I’m sending this to the list in case anyone can put him in contact with
the people he’s looking for.

Hi!
I
saw you mailadress at upa about the mixed tournament coming up in the bayarea.
I
was born i Berkeley, but moved to Sweden when I was 3.
I
played Ultimate with New York,New York during Nationals -93 with
Dennis
Warsen and Juano Flores.
I
think at least one of them are still hanging in the bay area.
I
think Dennis is at least playing discgolf.
Please
send me a note if you could help me with phone and mailadresses to them,
if
they are around.
Another guy
that probably is somewhere else is Steve Courlang, if you have any clue.
(oldtimer
from Flying circus, but he also played with Berkeley before then.)
Me
and my family(wife and two kids) are going back to the bay area, staying
at a hotel in Berkeley on the 13th of july and after that 3 more days staying
in downtown San Fran.
It
would be great to throw some disc if there would be some pickup game going on.
Dear Ultimate lovers,
I'm from the UK and will be visiting California from the end of
June until the beginning of August with a friend; heading up to
Vancuver for WUGC come August.
My friend and I will be looking to play as much ultimate as possible
as long as we're over there, if you play pickup games (especially on
the beach) and welcome 'non-regulars' to come and play then please get
in touch and let me know where/when we can get some disc; we don't
want to go to one of the places on the map to find that it's been
bloody cancelled.
Furthermore, if you can offer us some floor space to sleep on (or
garden space to pitch a tent on) we will happily return the favour
with beers/chores/cooking/banter/cash/etc. (We will have a car and
camping gear)
Thanks in advance,
-Chef
Were you a kickball champ in elementary school?
Unfortunate enough to be born in a country that doesn’t a culture steeped
in big, red, rubber balls? Want to show the world that you’ve got
other skills than a no-look scoober? In any case, on June 28th
from noon to 5PM, there is a kickball tournament (to the extent that a couple
hundred unskilled, likely intoxicated ball kickers can create a tournament) in
GG Park and Ana Denmark and I’ve created a team. It should be a
blast and the proceeds ($35 per person) all go to a charity for inner-city kids
in San Francisco.
To register, go to http://tinyurl.com/5btx25
Click on Register, Join an existing team and select
“#1 Fantastical Ball Team”
We’ve got room for up to 20 people and I’ll
bring the beer.
Imagine this:
- two-bedroom flat, a block off Valencia near 21st St.
- one block to Boogaloo's.
- Ritual Coffee right around the corner.
- Dog-Eared Books a block further.
- easy to stumble home from Amnesia, Revolution Cafe, The Makeout Room.
- Dosa, Range, Spork and many, many other restaurants literally down the
block.
And here is the real hook:
- two adorable, 2-month old kittens.
Who can pass up not just one, but two kittens? Storm and Spencer are both
affectionate and playful. Storm loves to curl up in your lap. Spencer prefers to
curl up nearby, and "talks" to you.
I'll be away from Saturday July 5 through Saturday July 12 and I need someone to
take care of the kittens.
Doesn't this sound enticing? You may even want to get your own sitter for a week
so you can take advantage of this!
Email me at gyachuk@..., or call me at 415-533-2336.
Thanks. Greg
I accidentally left a green Nalgene bottle and dark-blue Nike/Arsenal sweater on the fields after the games on Tuesday. Yes, I'm a moron. Holler if you happen to have picked them up.
We're heading up to the High Sierra Music Fest and looking for someone
to watch over the house and our two terrific dogs, Maya and Sasha.
Dates would be Thurs, July 3 til Sunday, July 6.
What you get...
* a house to yourself
* a choice of bedrooms to crash in
* snuggle time with two dogs...Maya will want to sleep with you...it's
your call...
* all food and beverage in the kitchen
* use of a Piaggio scooter
* easy access to the ocean, to Serramonte, to great hiking trails
* our sincere appreciation
What you must do...
* feed the dogs
* walk them once a day
* lock the house when you leave
* avoid throwing a hip-hop party for 100 guests
Email me at: jmsrwc@... or call 415.572.2342
Thanks! Jeff
(I'm posting this for a friend ~ please reply to him ~ thanks.)
I'm blind, but grew up playing ultimate while still sighted. If you
want practice reading throws, I'll go deep. As long as you can get it
back to me (please aim at my feet, not face), I'd love to toss it around.
Drop me a line. East Bay best, but Golden Gate Park also good.

Even after I carefully placed them in my bag Thursday so I wouldn't lose them
again. Maybe
fate is predetermined. They must have fallen out in the grass when I was
changing my
shoes. If, by any chance, you found a pair of Smith sunglasses on the field
Thursday, please
let me know. I'd really like to have them back. And I swear I won't lose them
again. Really.

I wanted to let y'all know about a service I created that's being used
by some ultimate teams up here in Seattle to coordinate pick-up games,
practices, and post-game BBQs. It's called Swaggle and the web site is:
http://swaggle.mobi/
It's a group text messaging service I've built and hope the ultimate
community can get some good use out of. Once you've created a group,
you can send a message to it and everyone in the group will receive a
text message on their phone. If they reply, that goes to everyone in
the group, as well.
Great for coordinating a team, since you can send messages that would
arrive too late as e-mail (e.g., "field is closed, we're moving to XYZ
instead", "running 20 min. late, don't forfeit!", "need a ride, can
someone pick me up?") or figuring out pick-up ("spontaneous pick-up at
XYZ park. Come now"). Sort of like Twitter/Dodgeball, except easier to
talk to a specific group of people.
Give it a shot at http://swaggle.mobi/ and let me know what you think.
It's free, I won't sell your number to anyone, you won't get spammed,
and you don't need to install any software or have any special phone
to use it, just regular text messaging.
hey all
sorry for the ham and jam and spamalot, but my small social media team of 3 is
hiring to replace our 4th! i thought i'd send this out for anyone who might be
interested in applying...

I lost my sunglasses Thursday - they were left on top of an empty
shirt box between the endzones of the two far right fields. I would
really like to get them back. This weekend sucked without them. If
you picked them up and are playing tonight please give them to me, or
Elizabeth or Ted or your captain if you don't know me. If you are
only playing Thursday please e-mail me and let me know you have them.
Also, I'm working in the Presidio on Wednesday and might be able to
come pick them up.
Thanks,
Kristi

before i go out and spend more money than i might need to - does anyone have a pair of old cleats i could take off of your hands? a women's size 7 or 7.5? i'm happy to pay you for them.
Hi All,
I left my Mud Classic disc at this pickup game on Sunday. If someone
found it, could you give it back at CVC or DUI?

Hi folks,
The second installment of high level mixed pickup in the Bay Area
(sponsored by Mischief) will be this Sunday, March 9th, at Hillsdale
High School from 2-5pm.
3115 Del Monte St, San Mateo The fields are at the back of the school
bordering 31st and Alameda de las Pulgas, where there should be
street parking.
As a heads up, the weekend after will be Mar 16th on the Stanford
Campus at the Sand Hill fields.
This is just open pickup, but if you are interested in tryouts,
please email mischief-tryouts at ultiteam dot org for more

Folks,
I'm coming in from the east bay tomorrow morning and would love it if
someone could pick me up at any SF Bart station. I'm guessing with a
9am start time to be at the BART around 8:30am (depending on which
one). I'm good getting home and Sunday (wife has the car tomorrow
morning).
Please let me know if you can help!
Thanks,

Due to the forecast of poor weather (2" of rain predicted
and >20 mph winds) and in the interest of setting a definitive plan
prior to the start of the weekend, we have decided to cancel Revolver
sponsored pick-up on Sunday 2/24. Unfortunately, there is a high probability
the fields we reserved (and most fields in the area) will be closed.
The plans for pick-up scheduled on 3/16 and try-out dates remain
unchanged.
I hope everyone has a great weekend and that we see you on 3/16.
Mike

Revolver sponsored pick-up games are upon us! As previously communicated, these games are not part of the formal Revolver try-out process but are instead a chance to shake off the cob-webs from the off-season. The attached document has further details as to location, times, plan, etc.
Please let the Revolver Captains (Mike, Ian, Eric) know if you have any questions.
See you on the field, Mike
PS. It was pointed out that SFUC make-up games are on 2/24. As the attached file mentions, the pick-up on 2/24 will be split into morning and afternoon
sessions. These sessions are designed to accommodate SFUC players who will have
either morning or afternoon make-up games. Also, the field location in the
Sunset should make it pretty easy for SFUC players to stop by before or after
their make-up games.
PPS. It
has also been pointed out that Spring Fling is on the 3/16 date. While this
is in direct conflict with the pick-up, we decided to select this
weekend anyway due to weekend/schedule constraints.
