Hi All,
For all of those who enjoy Ultimate, you might want to give
DiscHoops a try.
While at first glance DiscHoops may resemble Goaltimate (the same
type of goal is used), the game is actually a radical departure from
both Ultimate and Goaltimate.
For starters, it's a full court game with two hoops and it's legal
to pass to yourself (including air brushing, tipping, delaying,
macking, etc.) and to self-score (but you have to run around the
hoop instead of through it).
It's also legal to knock the disc out of the thrower's hand while
he/she is holding it.
Shocking, I know, but it works surprisingly well. Additionally,
traveling and offensive fouls result in turnovers, there are both
personal fouls, team fouls, fouling out and free throws. Also, 'out
of bounds' means just that, out of bounds.
And last but not least, players on the field no longer unilaterally
make calls but rather the players in the sub lines manage the stall
count, collaborate on travel calls and there is a hybrid approach
between players on the field and the sub-lines for resolving fouls.
For those who have tried it, the game is very fun and it is also an
amazing workout. We've been playing it for about 4-5 months and it
seems to have the proper amount of balance with regards to
risk/reward and consequences but I'll let you be the judge of that.
There is interest in SF, Santa Cruz, the east bay and the south bay
and I've been setting up my kit where & when ever there is enough
people to get a game going. Before the summer is out, there will
definitely be a Bay Area DiscHoops tournament.
If you are interested in trying out the game for yourself, please
email me at fhuguenard@... and specify where your preference
for playing is.
Hopefully over the next several weeks, I'll be setting up somewhere
in your area.
Thanks,
Frank
