Loft space in Warehome for Nov-Jan sublet
$800/month

I’m looking for someone to enjoy and care for my loft in
West Oakland from November 1 through the end of January.
The room has a self-contained bathroom and is one of six in
the second floor of a warehouse 8 blocks from the West
Oakland BART station.

It is a brick building with wooden floors and exposed beams
throughout – in many ways a project underway. A kitchen
and common space – for eating, socializing, working on
projects – is shared with 7 others – philosophers, sailers,
architects, programmers, historians, furniture makers,
students, stock-brokers, artists, composters,
boat-builders, bikers, cooks, film-makers, gardeners,
tennis-players.

The studio itself is very large with huge west-facing
windows full of afternoon light. There is a sleeping loft
above what I use as a dressing room. A claw-footed tub
stands on a raised platform in one corner of the main room,
at the bathroom door. I can leave the space furnished or
not.

The neighborhood has grown on me – obviously as I am hoping
to return to the loft, the house, and the area. It’s an
old, racially diverse neighborhood, currently in the throws
of gentrification – a daily evolution. I have a shorter
commute to downtown SF than any other place I’ve lived on
either side of the bay – 5 minute walk to the BART, 7
minute ride to Embarcadero.

In the past year, the city of Oakland has put a lot of work
into abutting green spaces including this new park:
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/10/22/national/22park.html?emc=eta1.
The area is increasingly bike-friendly; the Emeryville
Trader Joes is less than 1.5 miles away.

Please contact me if you are interested:
