Howdy:
As many of you know we're in the homestretch: 4 days from now we'll know the
future of disc golf in San Francisco. You can still make a difference. In
fact, you will be what makes or breaks our efforts.
We just learned that Parks Dept. staff is going to recommend that the disc
golf course in San Francisco be REMOVED from Golden Gate Park and then
possibly put in McLaren Park, on the southern edge of the city. That's
right -- no disc golf in Golden Gate Park. This is completely unacceptable,
for many, many reasons. Only a massive turnout of supporters politely
demanding that the course be kept in Golden Gate Park and expanded to a full
18-hole course is going to save us.
You need to come to the meeting on Thursday October 20th, at 2:00PM in Room
416, City Hall (please come 15 minutes early so that we can sign you up to
speak, get you materials, etc.). We are asking that you bring as many people
as you can to the meeting as well. It is going to take a showing of 200+
people RESPECTFULLY demanding an 18-hole course in Golden Gate Park to save
this situation.
Emphasis on RESPECT: the Commission is not the staff, and vice versa. The
Commission can overrule staff recommendations, and has done so many times in
the past. The Commissioners who like us do so because of the respectful
approach we took at the last meeting. Over 100 people were in attendance,
politely and respectfully demanding that the sport we all love become a
permanent fixture in Golden Gate Park.
There are also two other things you need to do:
FIRST: CALL THE PARKS DEPARTMENT:
Take one minute RIGHT NOW and call the Parks Department at 415-831-2700.
Tell whoever answers the phone that you want the course to REMAIN IN GOLDEN
GATE PARK, be expanded to a full 18-holes and made permanent. This will take
a minute of your time - they will thank you for your input and add it to
their tally of comments for or against and that's that.
SECOND: SEND A LETTER TO THE PARKS DEPARTMENT:
If you have not already done so, SEND A LETTER RIGHT NOW to the Parks
Commission. Simply go to:
http://www.sfdiscgolf.org/feedback/feedback.html
Once again, here are the details:
What: Parks Commission Hearing on Disc Golf in Golden Gate Park
When: 2pm, Thursday October 20th
Where: City Hall, Room 416
Let's all make this happen.
See you Thursday,
Ross Hammond
