From Alcatraz (1979)

/"No one has ever escaped from Alcatraz... And no one ever will!"/
Starring:
Clint Eastwood, Patrick McGoohan, Roberts Blossom.
Trivia:
Danny Glover makes his first on-screen appearance in the film.
/"If you disobey the rules of society, they send you to prison; if you
disobey the rules of the prison, they send you to US."/
Clint Eastwood, prison guards, nasty wardens - what better way to spend
a September evening? Convict Frank Morris is moved to The Rock after one
too many escape attempts. Naturally, he immediately plots his most
daring and risky attempt yet. Nobody has ever escaped from Alcatraz.
Will he be the first to succeed? Will the Warden catch him in the act?
Why didn't he just take the ferry?
/"We do not make model citizens, but we do make model prisoners."/
A masterpiece of 1970s-era filmmaking, way back when character
development trumped pyrotechnics and CGI generated Gungans
<http://www.mindspring.com/%7Eernestm/jarjar/deathtojarjar.html>,
/Escape/ is full of gritty and understated roles, with Patrick
McGoohan's evil warden playing perfect counter to Clint Eastwood's smart
understated role as Frank Morris, plotting the impossible escape.
/Frank Lee Morris/
Former Alcatraz inmate. / *Al Capone*: What's your name kid?
*Charley Butts*: Charley Butts.
*Capone*: Hahahah, you got a pretty friggin' funny name kid.
*Charley Butts*: Oh yeah? What's yours?
*Capone*: Al Capone.
/
The movie is based on the real life escape of Frank Lee Morris
<http://www.alcatrazhistory.com/alcesc1.htm> and the Anglin Brothers in
1962. No bodies were ever recovered, and none of the escaped inmates
were heard from again. They are presumed drowned in the icy bay waters,
but we all know better - maybe you are sitting next to one of them right
now!
