Hey All you Ultimate Creative Types and Artists (I know there are a lot
of you out there) -
Natalie, from BULA has requested to spread the word to the Ultimate
Community about this unique opportunity to design the trophy for the
upcoming Beach Ultimate World Championships in Portugal this summer. The
winner, besides being honored with countless volumes of fame, will also
be awarded a cash prize of 500 Euros (about $615 dollars).
Please feel free to forward along to any other Ultimate lists I've
overlooked or to any creatives out there you may know -- particularly
Ultimate players since we'd like to keep the fame centralized within the
Family ;)

THE TROPHY COMPETITION
The Beach Ultimate Lovers Association (BULA) is organising a Trophy
Competition for their newly started World
Championships. It is our wish to invite all creative people, members or
no members of the disc community, to
participate in the competition and design a trophy that can represent
this event for many years to come.
The tournament holds four different divisions (Men, Women, Mixed and
Masters), all of which require a trophy
of its own. Therefore, you can submit up to 4 different proposals (one
for each division)
OR you can submit 1 proposal with the necessary adaptations.
PRIZES
The winner of the competition will receive a prize of €500. The
trophies will be exhibited during the
tournament along with the winner's artistic profile and contact
information. In addition, a 3D image of the
trophies will be made. This will allow the artist and the winning
players to add the image to any website
(personal, club team, national team websites, etc.) with a link back to
the digital memory of the event (film,
pictures, results, information about the artist, etc...).
JURY
The best proposal will be chosen by our lovely Jury:
Rene Westenberg, Will Tams, Nieves Viadero, Chris 'Sprocket' Strehlau
and Patrick van der Valk.
Rene is a dutch photographer. Prefers to call himself a "frisbee player
who likes to bring his camera along".
He's been playing ultimate and discgolf since 1988. Took some great
pictures at Paganello and Heilbronn 2000,
some of which you can find on his website
http://www.renewestenberg.nl/ppm .
Will Tams, is a Graphic Artist and Designer living in Berkeley,
California. His passion for Ultimate is
rivaled only by his love of Painting - where he currently is involved in
a series of mixed media paintings of
various subjects. He currently exhibits work in Berkeley and Santa Cruz,
California and has an upcoming show
in San Francisco. His work is available for viewing online at:

Nieves Viadero is a Spanish artist. She specializes in Engraving Arts.
Lives most of the year in Canary
islands. Widely known in the beach ultimate community for her sweet&sour
sense of humour and her unique and
original designs on frisbee handmade bags!
Sprocket, the Big Island Love daddy. German man living in Hawaii, raises
chickens, bananas and papayas, just
the tip of many many many other loving activities. Check his website at
www.bigislandlove.com.
Patrick van der Valk. Executive Director of BULA. Check his webpage at:

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
There are no creative (material, form, colour etc.) restrictions to your
proposals except:
1. The trophies should allow space for recording the name of the
yearly trophy holder.
2. The trophies should be non-easily breakable.
3. The trophies should have a reasonable size and weight. So that
it would be easy to move and carry.
4. No additional money is available to cover material or shipping
costs (to Portugal).
*Extra consideration will be given to the artist that can solve the
problem of having the trophy returned to
the next Championship.
DEADLINES
The deadline for (proposals) submissions is May 15th, 2004.
The winner will be announced by June 1st, 2004.
The 4 trophies must be ready and available for exhibition by August 1st.
That is exactly two months after the
winning confirmation.
The prize will be delivered as soon as the trophies are ready.
*Please note that one thing is the proposals, which are done by email,
and another thing is the production of
the trophies themselves. It is therefore, very important that when
submitting you describe your proposals in
detail. And it is very important to know that when you decide to
participate you are committing to produce 4
individual pieces of work by August 1st, 2004 at the latest.
WHAT TO DO?
- Send a picture, drawing or concept of your proposal(s) (in JPEG or GIF
file format) to the following email
address: natalie@...
- Please don´t forget to include your name, address, telephone number(s)
and email address.
- Send a written description of your proposal. Size, materials, how and
where the holder name will be
recorded, and any other information you think relevant. This is very
important. Please describe your
submission in detail. There is no other way to know what the actual
trophies will look like in real life.
- And finally, a small biography. Who are you, what you do etc.
*The size of the files should be reasonable. Please do not exceed 400
Kb.
