If you recall, last week, we spoke of the various NWA Wisconsin
stars who have all gone on to opportunities for greater exposure in
their careers, such as CM Punk, Shawn "Khosrow" Daivari, and Mr. Ken
(Anderson) Kennedy...Kennedy (who is actually a native of Green Bay,
Wisconsin). In this segment, we will talk about some of the current
roster of NWA Wisconsin.
While midget wrestling is nothing new in pro wrestling, it's new if
you haven't seen "The World's Sexiest Midget", Shortstack in
action. This former NWA Wisconsin X-Divison Champion can hold his
own against heavyweights as well as cruiserweights, and despite his
diminuitive size, he's challenged former heavyweight champions and
given them a run for their money!
Womens wrestling is also alive and well at NWA Wisconsin with Miss
Anne and Katie McCormack leading the pack, with other talented
ladies arriving to challenge them!
NWA Wisconsin, aside from being an NWA member promotion is one of
the few independent promotions to have lasted through the wrestling
boom that was the nWo phase in the mid-90's until today, thanks to
the dedication of NWA Wisconsin's exceptionally talented crew, both
wrestlers and behind the scenes.
Due to NWA Wisconsin's location, it has a far greater talent pool to
draw upon, with wrestlers coming in from as far as Minnesota and
Chicago to Michigan, as well as Wisconsin.
Also, due to its NWA affiliations can import talent from its
neighbor, NWA Midwest, as well as any other NWA member promotion,
and takes advantage of it to put on the most exciting matchups on
the independent circuit.
Just to show you can have a sense of humor in the wrestling
business, every year, NWA Wisconsin puts on their own version of
a "gimmick battle royal", with several pot shots taken at fellow
wrestlers and NWA Officials.
Of course, besides the history, you want to hear about the
champions. Last year, NWA Wisconsin had all of the wrestlers work
for free to donate funds towards the Salvation Army's efforts to
relief of Hurrican Katrina, and right after that, at a show entitled
Last Call, the ACW Heavyweight Championship changed hands for the
final time before being retired in an incredible Triple Threat Match
that saw the ACW Championship being defended twice in the night,
finally in wrestling action that had fans sitting on the edge of
their seat, Sam Hayne became the final ACW Heavyweight Champion,
discarding the title and blowing his trademark fireball to signify
the change from ACW to NWA. Previously, the title was held by J-
Cash, who battled Hayne with former partner Shane Hills, Quinson
Valentino (whom Cash defeated for the belt) and Jesus Ramirez.
Cash's reign is the shortest in ACW history at a mere 25 days.
The X-Division in NWA Wisconsin is similarly remarkable. For those
who think that the heavyweights are just big lumbering oafs, and X-
Division wrestlers just flop around like fish out of water, than you
have yet to see NWA Wisconsin action! Champion Digeo Corleone heads
it up as the X-Division Champion, and his unusual style of wrestling
(as well as his manager, the Greaseball, Paulie Palermo) gives the
other X-Divison wrestlers something to think about! Shortstack, who
recently appeared in a segment on WWE Unlimited was also a former X-
Divison Champion, as is TC Washington and Dredd (who was managed by
Miss Anne for a time until she had all she could take as a manager
and set foot in the ring herself to take care of business). Latin
Sensation Esteban Molina most recently had the belt, up until he had
it taken by Diego, and the big Ruff Ryder Rashaan is also a former X-
Division champion, proving that in the X-Division, there truly are
no limits!
If your appetite has been whetted by what you've seen so far, make
sure to check out the next part in our series, where we will
concentrate on the history of the ACW Heavyweight Championship and
the many great titleholders who have reached the pinnacle of success
in the promotion that NWA Wisconsin was formerly known as.
Also, we are less than three days away fron NWA Wisconsin's Late
Knight Stand at Baba Louie's in DePere, Wisconsin, so if you have
not yet checked out our calendar or NWAWisconsin.com (or our Yahoo
group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SFPCatalog) for information
on how to get to Baba Louie's, make sure to do so. Remember, it's a
party...with wrestling thrown in! See you at Baba Louie's!
