NWA/ACW, Abdullah The Butcher & Lord Alfred Hayes   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #158 of 422 |

The July 23 NWA/ACW event was a very unusual night, and for those who were
there, it was definitely a night to be remembered.

The night’s opening bout featured ACW newcomers Jack Spade taking on T-Bone.
The larger Spade took control of the match early on, and for the most part,
maintained that control throughout the match, scoring a pinfall on T-Bone. An
excellent showing by the big man Spade.

In tag team action, La Cosa Nostra takes on “The Players In Pink”, Josh Maxim,
Bobby V, and Kuba Andrews, accompanied by manager Uncle Morty. The crowd was
hot for the “Players”, but not in a good way, and the three played right into
that, annoying the heck out of the fans in attendance. The ring couldn’t hold
all the action, and it spilled outside. From there, it became a matter of who
was the more experienced team, and that was La Cosa Nostra, and they picked up
the pinfall win, in what is believed to be the first win for the Sicilian New
Yorkers.

Stumpy returned to ACW to take on The Baron, but he didn’t get in much offense
on the larger Baron until Peter B. Beautiful came in and shoved Stumpy out of
the way and cleaned all 24 hours of The Baron’s clock with a chairshot. Peter
grabbed the mic, and bragged how there would be no match with Abdullah the
Butcher tonight, as he had purposely given Abdullah the wrong driving
directions to the venue, but then Chaz Kildare of the ACW Executive Committee
came to ringside to inform Peter that his match would go on as planned, because
he had caught up with Abdullah, and given him the proper directions, much to
Peter’s dismay.

The ACW Tag Team titles were on the line next as Champions Lone Wolf and
Berzerker work to hold off the challenge of Mason Quinn and Ruff Ryder Rashaan.
Although Quinn and Ruff Ryder took the early lead of dominance in the match,
the champs battled back with dirty tactics. Although there were some brief
comebacks from the challengers, nothing equaled the offense they showed at the
outset of the match, and the tag straps are retained by the Champions.

In impromptu No-Disqualification action, Silas Young takes on J-Cash of the Cash
Money Bad Boys. Originally, the match wasn’t going to take place, as J-Cash was
simply going to provide commentary, but Silas changed all that when he made the
verbal assault against Cash personal, by bringing up Cash’s wife and daughter.
From there, the match was on, and we saw Silas work over the left arm of J-Cash
in an attempt to weaken it enough to dominate the match. Silas maintained the
upper hand throughout the match, but it wasn’t enough to defeat J-Cash, as he
scored the 1-2-3 with the “Cash Flow”. After the match, Silas’ friend
Dysfunction came out to attack Cash’s weakened left arm, but Spanish Stew (Dinn
T. Moore and El Vato Jose Guerrero) along with Jesus Ramirez ran out to make the
save. Then, Spanish Stew prepared for their NWA-WI Tag Team Title defense
against Logan Lasher and Red Lightning. The challengers came out with a new
person who will presumable be managing the team, but who was not introduced
before the match. Perhaps their eagerness to defend J-Cash took a little wind
out of the sails of the reigning champs, as they were unable to mount much
offense during the match. Despite this, they still managed to score a
simultaneous pinfall of the challengers, and when Lightning and Lasher’s new
manager tried to attack the winners, Vato took to the top rope to launch a
Decapitator clothesline at him.

Although the intermission is usually a quiet time in terms of in-ring action,
there was some impromptu action from an unlikely source—ACW commentator The
Wizard of Todd, who came into the ring and invited a person from the audience
to join him. A person who just happened to be ACW commentator Ben Johnson’s
mother! Todd explained to the crowd that he had fallen in love with Ben’s
mother, and proposed marriage to her in front of the crowd. Naturally, a
stunned Ben stormed the ring, and insisted there was no way he would allow Todd
to marry his mother without asking him first. Todd quipped he didn’t ask Ben
first because he didn’t WANT to marry him; he wanted to marry his mom. A
furious Ben stormed away, but it is almost certain that this situation has yet
to be resolved.

After the intermission, Dysfunction comes out, accompanied by the lovely Anne,
who has recently been seen escorting Dredd to the ring to take on Jesus
Ramirez, who was escorted by Katie. Although the match started out fast-paced,
soon Dysfunction took control of the match by reaching into his bag of
underhanded tactics and slowed the match pace down. Jesus battled back, but it
was all in vain, as between Anne’s interference and Dys’ underhanded tactics,
Jesus was simply unable to hold on to control of the match for very long.
Dysfunction claims victory by submission to end the bout. As Jesus and Katie
were leaving, Dysfunction would give them a double noggin knocker. As Anne was
about to add insult to injury, Kerry would run out in defense of Katie. The
returning Dana Hilton evened up the odds, and made an impromptu tag team ladies
match. Although Anne and Dana controlled the match over the inexperienced duo
across the ring from them, the tide would shift as Dana would be thrown from
the ring, and decided that she didn’t feel like coming back to help Anne,
leading her to being “stack” pinned by Katie and Kerry.

In ACW X-Division action T.C. Washington, having earned the #1 Contender status
the previous month, takes on new X-Division Champion, Dredd. However, the
former champion, Shortstack, who has had previous issues with Dredd comes out
and inserted himself in the match, turning it into a 3-way match. Although the
match started off with T.C. and Shrrtstack, soon Shortstack remembered that it
was Dredd, who stood on the outside gloating, that he was after. Starting off
with teamwork between T.C. and Shortstack, it soon dissolved into every man for
himself with several near falls. However, in the end, it would be the new ACW
X-Division Champion who would retain his title via pin.

Then, in the main event, the Sudanese Madman, Abduallah the Butcher, whom
despite being well into his 60’s has not lost any of his edge, takes on Peter
B. Beautiful. Peter attacked the Butcher before he got all the way down to
ringside, but Abdullah took control of the match early on, stabbing Peter in
the forehead with a fork. Peter retaliates using a pen, causing Abdullah to
bleed as well. Stumpy Loads attempts to interfere on behalf of Peter, only to
get a fork to the skull himself. The match spills out into the crowd, towards
the group of people gathered for a wedding party next door, who are taking in
the event. The carnage is mercifully short as Abby performs a running elbow
drop to score the pin and the win.

After the matches, it was decided that since the wedding party next door decided
to crash our wrestling, we were going to invade the wedding party next door.
So, all of the wrestlers, the ACW announce team, and our crew all gathered and
formed our very own “invasion”. It was quite a sight to see al of the
wrestlers invade the party, going and mingling in the crowd, and seeking out
all the lovely young ladies as only pro wrestlers can. Somehow former NWA
X-Division Champion Silas Young gets ahold of a live mic, and cuts a promo,
screaming that if “you wanna invade our wrestling? We’ll we’re gonna crash
your wedding!” Unfortunately, the invasion force didn’t last long, as no one
can keep up with wrestlers very long, at least not any normal people, so with
our point being made with an exclamation point on it, the invaders left, but
not without making sure that everyone knew why we were leaving.

Look for NWA/ACW’s next event in Oshkosh, WI on August 6.

Also, it is with great regret that I mention the passing of His Lordship, Lord
Alfred Hayes. His Lordship was a staple of the WWE's old Tuesday Night Titans
("TNT") program, and then later the WWF's syndicated programs, and their
Coliseum Videos. His distinctive and rich English accent brought a certain
classiness to many of the WWF's programs, and it was always a real treat to
hear his commentary on the matches, especially in the segment "A Call of the
Action", where a young, but considered up and coming wrestler would have
several of his moves described by Hayes. I recall Shane Douglas on one of the
programs. Also, at the end of the tapes, it was His Lordship that would always
say, "For more information on Coliseum Home Video, wrrrite to...", where he
would roll his "r"'s just enough without sounding too corny. I recall reading
a biographical piece on the old WWF, and His Lordship was described as a
"diminuitive British wrestler with Masterpiece Theatre diction". His
Lordship's presence will be missed.
