Hi, All.
Former Ice Club DeMorra member and a member of the 1972 Olympic Long
Track Team, Peter ("Petey") Eberling, died this afternoon at Centinela
Hospital in Inglewood. Petey was just 55 years old, and died of
complications relating to a severe ulcer.
I knew Petey well back then, and he was one of those people that
everyone liked. He made a few trips to the Nationals (back then they
called it "Indoor" instead of "Short Track"), but like many of our
skaters in those days, went on to excel in Long Track ("Outdoor') and
skated in the 1972 Olympic Games in Sapporo, Japan. I was lucky enough
to get to watch him skate on TV, long before cable TV coverage of
events like the Olympics.
Here is a photo of him skating Long Track, I'm not sure of the event or
location.
