Hi, Annette.

I would suggest changing your email address, too.  Once hacked, it can now be on email lists anywhere.  Give it a little time, like a week or two.  But if anything else happens, if you start getting the advertisements yourself (that is, in a number large enough to bug you, we all get emailed ads), then change your address, and tell everyone that you did so.

If you *ever* shop online (I do, all the time), set up a secondary email address and use that only for online commercial things.  That way, once it is compromised, you can easily change it, without having to notify all of your friends that you have another new email address.

Lastly, MySpace.  When your kids get an email saying that someone has left a message on their  MySpace, never click on the link in that email.  Usually it is safe, but it sometimes will lead to a bogus site that is "phishing" for your MySpace username and password.  That is how MySpace passwords are compromised.  Instead of clicking on that link, simply log on to the MySpace page just like you would normally do

Hi all,

For the last 11 days our email was down and I did not receive any mail.  We finally got to the bottom of the problem and found out that my email had been hacked into. Thousands of advertisements had been sent from my email address to recipients throughout the world!!!  There was a complaint from the British Isles and my internet connection was disconnected by the server, without notice to me.  I had too simple of a password for my internet connection and hackers were able to do their thing.

Just warning you guys... it could happen to you!!

As of yesterday my email is up and running again and my password has been changed.  If you sent me any important emails, you can send them again and I should be able to get them now.
