Hi, Folks.
Tuesdays!! We now have a training session on Tuesday Evenings, from
6:10-7:25 pm, same as the other nights. The first session is this
coming Tuesday, August 8th!
This extra ice is part of a master plan for this coming season to have 5
nights of ice at Lakewood per week. This is the best way that the
SCSSA can be competitive at the National Level. Currently, the main
attraction of the two "Programs" (Colorado Springs and Marquette,
Michigan), is that they skate almost every day.
Since Wilma came here eight years ago, her one big wish has been to
have a training program here in Southern California that would be so
good that skaters would not want to leave for the Olympic Training
programs. The only way we can reach that goal is to have more ice time.
Thursdays!! Under a special provision of the latest Grant from
the Amateur Athletic Foundation (AAF), beginning September 7th we will
also have a training session on Thursdays! Now, you may be
asking "How are the skaters going to be able to afford so much ice?
Well, under that special provision from the AAF, the Thursday session
will be at no cost, but only for those skaters who pay for three
other sessions per week. That is, if you pay the monthly fee for
any three of the other sessions: Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, and
Wednesday, then the Thursday session will be free.
Prices: The price setup for Tuesdays will be the same as it was
last year. That is, $20.00 per session if you pay monthly, and $25.00
per session drop-in fee. Prices are for skaters of all ages. Until
other arrangements can be made, I (Jerry Search) will handle taking the
moneys for Tuesdays. Please make your checks out to "SCSSA".
Yes, this is very short notice for the Tuesday session this Tuesday.
However, the arrangements were made a month ago, and it just got
overlooked (my fault!!). But now you know.
Please help support these sessions! Without your support, the SCSSA
cannot pull this off (skating at Lakewood 5 nights per week). For
example, presently the Sunday morning sessions are, on average, 2-4
skaters short on breaking even (covering the ice cost). Without more
support on Sundays, the price ($15.00) will have to go up. Please come
skate on Sunday mornings (ice is at 7:00 AM),
Sincerely,
Jerry Search
PS: I forgot one big note: While all SCSSA training sessions are open
to everyone, only Saturdays and Wednesdays are open to beginners. On
all other Lakewood sessons (Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays), there
will be no novice coach on the ice, and the workout will
be grared to the more advanced skaters. If you have any questions on
whether or not you can skate the other sessions, please do not hesitate
to ask!!
