Hi, All.
This is a reminder about the upcoming Red Cross Sports Safety Course on
October 30th and November 6th. So far I have only had 3 people sign
up. We need at least eight, but the most important part is that we
need as many people, especially skaters, to sign up for this critical
class. Honestly speaking, we have been skating on this ice for years,
and have been incredibly lucky. But that luck may not last for ever,
and the more people we have that are trained for emergencies, the
better off we, and YOU, will be!
For the 25 years that I was a firefighter, I was involved in hundreds
of situations where we had to perform CPR. We call this situation a
:full arrest", where both the breathing. and the heart, have stopped,
or have been "arrested". Out of those hundreds, many of which we
worked on for over 30 minutes, we only saved four. A "save" is defined
as the person living for more than 30 days after the full arrest.
BUT: This low number comes from the fact that, in most cases, CPR was
not started until we arrived. Precious minutes were lost. This is
where you come in: You CAN save a life by starting CPR immediately,
until the Fire Department arrives. This takes only 3-5 minutes of your
time, and it does save lives.
Please sign up for the Red Cross Course now! The life you save may be
someone you love! Just email me with your name. That is all it
takes. Besides the $40.00, which you can give me as soon as you see
me. Please make those checks out to the American Red Cross.
Also, if you have a few minutes, please read the updates below for my
fireman friend's wife, Marilyn. A true miracle has happened with her,
and only because her 4 friends were CPR certified when she went down.
Think if this were someone you loved, like a parent. Want to save
life??

5 p.m. - Saturday
Bob called today and
said, "this is from the happiest man on earth" :) The neurologist who
examined Marilyn on Sunday re-examined her today and told Marilyn that
no one who had been in the condition she was, has ever walked out of
the hospital. He went on to say, "you know this is a miracle".
Marilyn
told him that it was prayer, starting immediately with 300 women the
moment it happened. He said, I don't know about that but I do
know that
it's a miracle. Let's all pray that the medical team working on Marilyn
will clearly see God's hand and accept him as their Lord.
No beds
are yet available at Long Beach Memorial so she can't be moved just
yet. Perhaps
Monday. She's eating and talking and doing incredibly well. In fact,
Bob put Marilyn on the phone with me for a moment. Her voice is raspy
and weak but she's clear of mind and her voice was music to my ears!
She still can't remember the past 2 weeks and some other small details
but we'll bring her up to speed when she's allowed visitors. The family
has again asked that I express their gratefullness for your prayers.
God is SO good!
