Urgent Need for Fundraising!!!

We want to remind all our active SCSSA families that we are still in
desperate need to raise funds for our coaching. Currently, it looks
like we will NOT be able to have the fireworks booth this year, which
means a loss of over $6,000! Therefore, the SCSSA Board has decided
to ask all families, skating at Lakewood, to raise $250 in our
fundraising efforts or to donate $300, if unavailable to do the
fundraising. All funds are due by August 1st, 2004, as that is about
the time we will run out of money. Checks to be made payable to
SCSSA. Remember, donations are tax deductible!

In addition, starting June 1st, all non-SCSSA members, excluding
first year novices, will pay an additional $5 per ice session
(Lakewood ice) and $10 per off-ice session, as a coaching fee. There
will be a voluteer parent available at off-ice sessions to collect
this fee. This will include skaters coming from other parts of the
country to train here, for any period of time.

SCSSA Membership will expire on July 31st and new membership fees are
due August 1st. Late payers will be subject to the $5 per ice
session and $10 per off-ice session fees, until SCSSA dues are paid.

We're very sorry we have to slam dunk everyone with this, but the
money needs to be raised. Any more suggestions for fundraising will
gladly be accepted!

Our biggest fundraiser is coming up! Our bike-a-thon is June 13th at
8 am. The ride will go from Huntington Beach to Corona along the
bike path that follows the river. It's about a 35 mile ride. There
will be a shorter (approx. 7 mile) ride for the less experienced
rider or for those without road bikes. Last year, we raised over
$1500 on this just alone! If everyone participates in this one, we
could do really well! Try to raise your $250 in sponsorship money!
Jean has the entries at the check-in desk. No entry fee...just find
sponsors! The bike-a-thon is followed with a barbecue and pool party
at the Rusk house.
