Well, the 2003 World Short Track Team has been selected! And it
contains 3 members of the SCSSA: Rusty Smith, Maria Garcia, and Misi
Toth.
And this means that we now have quite a collection of Elite Short Track
skaters training with us, including a current Olympian, current World
Team members, current Junior World Team members, and even a foreign
Olympic Medalist (Yang Yang, who should start skating with us regularly
this summer). Not to mention our fine assortment of National Age group
Champions!
The U.S. Championships Results: The 2003 World Short Track Team:
Ladies:
1. Caroline Halisey
2. Maria Garcia (Maria also set a new American Record in the 500 meters
of 45.869 (no easy feat)! An american Record is any record set by an
American skater of any age at any of several National or International
competitions (but *not* the Nationals, which is done by age groups)
3. Allison Baver
4. Bridie Farrell
Men:
1. Apolo Ohno
2. Rusty Smith
3. J.P. Kepka
4. Misi Toth
Other SCSSA'ers:
Ladies:
Lezleigh Jaworski finished 7th overall.
Jade Wheeler finished 8th overall.
Alice Kim finished 11th overall. This is Alice's first year to make the
top 16 cutoff, Junior or Senior!
Alice, Lezleigh, and Maria made the 2003 Junior World Team and competed
in Budapest, Hungary, in January.
Men:
Tony Hwang: 10th overall.
