DENVER -- The history of the Rockies is fresh and the story is continuing. But the story of baseball in Denver is much older, and the Rockies and local baseball historians are making sure that it won't be forgotten.
At noon on Aug. 29, the Rockies will participate in a ceremony honoring Denver's baseball heritage at Lot J in the northwest parking lot of Invesco Field at Mile High, which any Denver baseball aficionado knows is not just a place for a car during Broncos football games.
The Rockies and the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Society for American Baseball Research will unveil a plaque commemorating old Bears Stadium/Mile High Stadium, which housed professional baseball in Denver from 1948 to 1994. In addition, a home plate will be placed in the exact spot that it occupied at the old ballpark.
On Saturday, the Rocky Mountain Chapter of SABR will conduct a meeting entitled Mile High Memories at the Breckenridge Brewery at 2220 Blake St., near Coors Field.
