I also saw Giles being credited with the 'all-time' record for walks
in a nine-inning game, but Jimmie Foxx (1938) and Walt Wilmot (1891)
each had 6 walks in nine-inning games. I wouldn't be surprised if
the media ignored Wilmot's record, but I think everyone agrees Foxx's
achievement is considered in the 'modern' era of baseball.
As Lyle Spatz pointed out on SABR-L, Giles really tied the since-
1900NL record, but tied neither the all-time major league record nor
even the all-time NL record.
Sometimes I wonder where these writers/reporters get their info since
all major record books agree on Wilmot's and Foxx's achievements.
