Berkman's streaks   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #428 of 714 |
As Rod Nelson just posted, Lance Berkman has been on an incredible
hot streak. I've sent some notes about the streals to the Astros,
which I've copied below:

16 hits in a 20 AB stretch (1957-present)
Andres Galarraga, MON NL, 6/30 (4thAB)-7/5 (1stAB), 1988.
Ellis Burks, COL NL, 9/9 (5thAB)-9/14 (3rdAB), 1996.
Ellis Burks, COL NL, 9/10 (2ndAB)-9/15 (2ndAB), 1996
Todd Walker, MIN AL, 7/21(2ndAB)-7/28 (1stAB), 1998.
Lance Berkman, HOU NL, 5/3 (3rdAB)-5/9 (2ndAB), 2008.
Lance Berkman, HOU NL, 5/4 (1stAB)-5/9 (4thAB), 2008.
Lance Berkman, HOU NL, 5/4 (2ndAB)-5/10 (1st AB), 2008.

19 hits in a 25 AB stretch (1957-present)
Albert Pujols, STL NL, 5/30 (2ndAB)-6/7 (1st AB), 2003.
Lance Berkman, HOU NL, 5/3 (1stAB)-5/10 (1stAB), 2008.
Lance Berkman, HOU NL, 5/3 (3rdAB)-5/10 (3rdAB), 2008.

21 hits in a 30 AB stretch (1957-present)
Rico Carty, ATL NL, 9/11 (3rdAB)-9/22 (2ndAB), 1970.
Al Oliver, PIT NL, 6/25 (4thAB)-7/3 (3rdAB), 1976.
Rod Carew, MIN AL, 6/22 (3rdAB)-7/1 (2ndAB), 1977.
Pete Rose, PHI NL, 9/11 (1stAB)-9/18 (2ndAB), 1979.
Lance Berkman, HOU NL, 5/2 (2ndAB)-5/10 (3rdAB), 2008.
Lance Berkman, HOU NL, 5/2 (3rdAB)-5/11 (1stAB0, 2008.

Consec. games with 4 or more plate appearances & 1 or fewer outs in
each game (1957-present)
7-Larry Walker, COL NL, 5/22-5/28/2003.
6-Mike Schmidt, PHI NL, 7/3-7/8/1977.
6-Jason Giambi, OAK AL, 6/10-6/16/2000.
6-Lance Berkman, HOU NL, 5/4-5/10/2008.

...and here are a few marks to keep an eye on for Berkman's near
future:

most hits in a 50 AB stretch (1957-present)
31: Pete Rose, PHI NL, 9/7 (4thAB)-9/20 (2ndAB), 1979.

most hits in a 100 AB stretch (1957-present)
54: Stan Musial, STL NL, 8/18/1957 (1st game, 4thAB)-4/29/1958
(2ndAB).
Stan Musial, STL NL, 8/18/1957 (1st game, 5thAB)-4/29/1958
(3rdAB).
Stan Musial, STL NL, 8/18/1957 (2nd game, 2ndAB)-4/30/1958
(1stAB).
...in a single season:
53: Ichiro Suzuki, SEA AL, 7/26 (2ndAB)-8/21 (1stAB), 2004.
Ichiro Suzuki, SEA AL, 7/26 (3rdAB)-8/21 (2ndAB), 2004.
Ichiro Suzuki, SEA AL, 7/27 (1stAB)-8/21 (3rdAB), 2004.

I researched those streaks using retrosheet data, which is missing
about 200 games (last time I checked) over the last 50 years, so it's
unlikely but possible that there's someone else out there who should
be on these lists that I don't know about.

Thanks,

Trent McCotter
