I was informed by www.baseball-almanac.com's webmaster Sean Holtz
that Luis A. Gonzalez's error streak ended last night, just several
hours after I sent out the post about it. Hopefully I didn't jinx
it!
Thome's still got his streak going, up to 17 straight games with a
run scored. All the major media services are listing the all-time
record as 25 by Billy Hamilton, but all the record books (including
that of Elias, who's likely the one saying the streak is 25 games)
list Hamilton as scoring in 24, not 25, consec. games.
The game in question is the first game of the August 3 doubleheader,
1894. Hamilton is listed by ICI, the WAS Post, and CHI Tribune as
scoring 0 runs (and his teammate Jack Boyle scoring 4 runs);
however, the Boston Globe lists Hamilton with 1 run and Boyle with 3.
If Elias has good evidence that Hamilton should be given a run
scored in this game, then that means he should be credited with an
amazing 199 runs scored for that season! That's 22 more than any
other player in any other season.
On that same topic, does anyone out there know which Philadelphia
papers from the 1890s that provides good baseball coverage? Dave
Smith gave me some good leads, but I'm trying to narrow it done to
just one or two papers that I can check for the 1894 Philadelphia NL
team.
Thanks and sorry for the long message,
