Thanks, Trent. One of the reasons I asked is because I came across an
account (in the Boston Globe) of a game (2nd game of a doubleheader on Sept.
1, 1890) between the Boston and Cleveland teams of the Players' League in
which it was stated that "Harry Stovey gave an exhibition of his great
base-running powers. Three times he reached first base and stole second and
third. Six stolen bases, and all made by the gamest kind of desperate
slides. The spectators enjoyed the work of this great artist and gave him
round after round of applause, which modest Harry appreciated by returning a
happy smile."
There was no mention of a record, so I assume either the Boston Globe writer
knew about Gore's old record of 7 and/or 6 was not so uncommon as to be
worthy of further discussion.
Thanks again,
