Lyle,
The Louisville-Courier Journal, microfilm edition available at Harvard,
doesn't say anything about the hit, does say that Ramsey pitched another
(I didn't write down the phrase).
There is another microfilm ed. of LCJ available in that city, with more
detail in its baseball coverage (I know from Jon Frankel). This game
was played in Baltimore, however, so I suggest writing to committee
members in Baltimore (if no one on this email list speaks up soon).
At times, many newspapers printed quasi-play-by-play of run-scoring
innings so it is likely we will be able to check Gabriel Schechter's
hypothesis, at least.
