hey barefoot Mike, Todd and Rick and other So Calif males, besides running barefoot, do you guys also enjoy the barefoot life. Like going barefoot out and about whenever possible. loving in So Cal, its easy to do most of the year.
Like now, we have 80 degree weather and I've been barefoot around town.
I'm also looking for male friends to hang out barefoot with.
Let me know if interested.
Btw, I saw the run announced on the news, but unfortunately, they didn't show any barefooters.
it was the perfect weather weekend for it too.
Hpe you all had a good run.

Hi Everyone,
I haven't read the entire post but I think I can add a visual for what Ken is talking about.

I ride horses, specifcally dressage. You use your core muscles to give direction to the horse with muscle flexion and weight distribution.

I have run for years in sneaks. But when I tried barefoot I was amazed how my body naturally assumed the position that I think Ken is talking about. After 2 miles I could hold a cup of coffee in my hand and not spill it.  I feel like I run from the core and use my hips to drive and my feet to balance. Running from the core takes the weight I would normally trot around from my legs and is moved to be carried high...in my core. I stretch up and my back relaxes. Jumping rope helps you do that.

And now that I have been doing it for a while, I find that my stride extends comfortably even on a treadmill. :)

Hmmm.. I just realized that "maintaining the vertical" position of
the body could be interpreted two ways. Both might be correct;
1 - Vertical Posture, meaning keeping the torso perpindicular with
the horizon.

2 - Vertical Position, meaning the body stays (or attempts to stay)
at the same elevation above the ground.

#2, is what I was referring to in this particular post asbout jumping
rope.

However, I probably could have mentioned that #1 is also important.

Have fun,

Hi all. Since october 2008 my IT-band has caused pain under my left
knee. I can pinpoint the place where the sore tendon moves over the
bone of my underleg.

I have done the whole textbook: stretches of the IT band, foam roller
sessions, rest. But after even 6 weeks of total rest, the moment I run
I feel my knee.

Now I am thinking maybe I should give myself a deep friction massage
on the place where it hurts. Or is this a bad idea?

All suggestions welcome!

When I was experiencing IT band issues at the knee it was related to
my mechanics. All the rolling and messaging never really helped.

IT Band issues at the knee can usually be linked to a few things. Very
tight adductors (inner thigh) and weak abductors(glutes)this can cause
your knees to fall in towards each other (knock kneed). Running with
your toes pointing outward could also be a potential problem. If your
hips are swinging side to side this can also effect the IT. One good
way to sort out the gait in a hurry is to have someone video tape you
from the side and front and rear. When you watch the video you will
get a clearer picture where your form might be off.

Good luck,Jay

When I watched this video I was left feeling grateful for the life I
have run into. I look at the way society can condition peoples beliefs
and thoughts about themselves. I am glad I have found a road less
traveled and I find it perfectly beautiful no matter what the others
think. While I find it hard to understand modifying my body to fit
into any clothes or footwear I can understand their reasoning. If I
condition my insides the outside will take care of itself.

Thanks for the video and the dose of gratitude,
Jay

Hey Ken, do you remember what you did before to get them to remove the adult
tag? I am
guessing that Yahoo has increased its antagonism to barefooting and now will not
admit any
barefoot group without calling it adult. That's their way of spitting in our
eye. Are we now
stuck with this?

There is nothing Ken Bob can do when you read Google what they
released to the press besides maybe hoping that they're going to do
their job correctly:

" "This site may harm your computer" on every search result?!?!

1/31/2009 09:02:00 AM
If you did a Google search between 6:30 a.m. PST and 7:25 a.m. PST
this morning, you likely saw that the message "This site may harm
your computer" accompanied each and every search result. This was
clearly an error, and we are very sorry for the inconvenience caused
to our users.

What happened? Very simply, human error. Google flags search results
with the message "This site may harm your computer" if the site is
known to install malicious software in the background or otherwise
surreptitiously. We do this to protect our users against visiting
sites that could harm their computers. We maintain a list of such
sites through both manual and automated methods. We work with a non-
profit called StopBadware.org to come up with criteria for
maintaining this list, and to provide simple processes for webmasters
to remove their site from the list.

We periodically update that list and released one such update to the
site this morning. Unfortunately (and here's the human error), the
URL of '/' was mistakenly checked in as a value to the file and '/'
expands to all URLs. Fortunately, our on-call site reliability team
found the problem quickly and reverted the file. Since we push these
updates in a staggered and rolling fashion, the errors began
appearing between 6:27 a.m. and 6:40 a.m. and began disappearing
between 7:10 and 7:25 a.m., so the duration of the problem for any
particular user was approximately 40 minutes.

Thanks to our team for their quick work in finding this. And again,
our apologies to any of you who were inconvenienced this morning, and
to site owners whose pages were incorrectly labelled. We will
carefully investigate this incident and put more robust file checks
in place to prevent it from happening again.

Thanks for your understanding."

This is not a messaging problem - the problem is that the group is all of a sudden labeled as "Adult". It is a sports group, not an Adult-content group. This happened once before. Perhaps is is based on keywords, like "barefoot" because some people are into that as a sexual fetish. This is a long established group based on runners who have discovered that running in over-built running shoes actually cause more injuries than running barefoot. Please look at the group and re-classify it correctly - as it had been. Thanks!

Okay I don't know what this is called, but thought maybe you all might know of a stretch or strengthening exercise that might help.  The tendon that is at the hip joint sometimes pops across the joint.  It can leave soreness for a loooong time.....maybe it stays out of place, I'm not sure.  I had a doctor who told me this once but he didn't offer advice and since I wasn't having an issue at the time I didn't think to ask.

Creative spammers at Yahoo! groups post to the links section and the polls section.  I deleted the inappropriate polls as well as some inappropriate links I found.  (Group Owners & Mods are notified about added photos and files, but not about added links and polls.)

I as I was checking these out, I also noticed Yahoo served some adult oriented ads.  I guess that is because they have the group incorrectly classified at this time.  Hopefully some humans still work at Yahoo  and will correct the problem.

It's a little difficult to see, but here is Barefoot Mike crossing the finish line ...

And here also here ....

And here is BFM and Jeremy his college bud (I ran with Jeremy for the first half)

My watch showed 3:47:42 for my finishing time. Mike came in a few minutes after me and Ken Bob was sometime after that.

Mike - Here are links to the original, higher resolution pics if you'd like them.
