to add to that post, barefoot todd was there representing barefooters in the marathon.  he had to start at 9am and encountered quite a bit of ice and rocks which contributed to a bit of tenderfootitis for alot of the trip., bu tover all he enjoyed himself.  also in tthe house, or around the lake was melissa, doing the 10-k with her one year old fake leg which impresses me greatly.( hey i know its got some scientific name, but not belonging to the dominant religion of the western world- and that is the church of science, i don't know the name).  in one year, shes done 10 half marathons and many other races.  my shoes off to her, well, my shoes are just off.

for the past 5 years it was cold in the dark morning, with a different twist.  there was 2 inches of snow on the ground, yet clear skies.  being the sierra nevada, i was hoping the snow would melt by run time. and i was glad i had chosen the half marathon because it started at 10:40am rather than 9am marathon.  that meant more time for the snow to melt.

by the time i caught the bus to the start, the street had already melted, and was warm in the sun.

the start had about half mile of gravel, ice  and dirt, but then onto the main road and the road was quite toasty.  it was a beautiful autumn day hugging the beautiful lake tahoe with  its wonderful up and down hills.  i ran with two friends and ran, walked for a leisurely picture taking adventure.  i recommend this course to everyone.  it is my favorite running event. it ends on pope beach with a big party. it is 6200 ft elevation.

Because Tiger's are Lean, Mean, Running Machines!!!

Because I am originally from Louisiana. Home of the LSU Fighting Tigers!!!

Because I always ran in Tigers before they became Asics!!!

Because Tiger Woods is the best golfer in the world!!!

Because of this photo. My first Overall 10K Victory of the year:

http://sports.ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/RunningBarefoot/photos/view/4b67?b=27

Okay, the competition was really weak. I also cheated and ran the
first two miles in shoes as fast as I can. Then I took off my shoes
and ran the last 4.2 miles barefoot to hang on for the win. I got
there so fast they didn't even have time to put up the tape!!!

And because everybody else is Barefoot So and So, and TigerPaw sounds
much cooler!!!

Yes, this kind of "footwear" are quite effective towards the casual
passerby who just assumes they are shoes. I find them uncomfortable
for walking long distances though. Excellent job! Say that on our
behalf to your daughter.

Thanks Justin...I'm planning on something just like that! I'm going
to get her to make a pair for myself and maybe I'll have her work on
those aspects. I think these could actually turn out to be quite
fashionable! I explained to her that sometimes, just seeing out of
the corner of your eye something like this...you just assume that
they are full blown shoes.

Hi Stacie,

Very impressive! I very much like that idea. I've thought of something
similar so I could go barefoot without getting hassled in certain
places. But, where I've only thought about it, your daughter just dove
in and did it!

Perhaps she could build on that prototype and make the strings that go
around the toe and heel more intricate and substantial, like the upper,
so as not to turn heads as Rick mentioned.

Who knows, maybe your interest in barefooting can result in your
daughter blossoming into a fashion magnate!

The heel elevation of the Nike Free is much too high to run with proper barefoot form.  Your heel is still forced to strike first  OK, they are more flexible and lack a supportive upper, but like most trainers, the design still makes you carry the bulk of your weight by your heel and arch area as you "roll through" your stride and pronate.  You have to force yourself to hyper-extend at the ankle to land on your forefoot.  You will be better off in the aqua sock style, or minimal cross country shoes.  Get a pair of spikeless Saucony Kilkenny XC shoes before they sell out!  Order them a full size bigger than you would normally wear.

I'll try running in my old lightweight aqua socks, but the newer aqua

I was running towards a mother and her little girl who were waiting

When I got close, I expected to hear some comment about my bare feet.
Instead, she said, "Mommy, that man isn't wearing pants!" I guess she
thought my running shorts were underwear!

First of all, I would like to thank all those who have given to Soles
For Souls to help the Kansas City Rescue Mission. During my first
barefoot marathon of three in Omaha last weekend, I had a wonderful
reception and gracious Omaha-ians gave both from their pockets and
their promised prayers.

We have made a wonderful start toward the $10,000 goal.

So far, online giving has equalled $550 -- cash donations are at
approximately $250, and one corporate pledge of $250 has come in for
a total of $1050. So, we are over one-tenth of our way to the "finish
line" with 5 weeks to go!

For those who have given ... thank you so much! Many lives will be
touched by your gracious giving.

I would like to challenge each and every one of you on this email
distribution to consider giving $5 toward the goal. If everyone
stepped up and gave $5, we would surpass our goal of $10,000.

If you would like to remain anonymous to KCRM (to not receive their
future mailings and such) please consider sending what you can to:

Barefoot Rick

Lee's Summit, Missouri 64086

Otherwise, please consider giving through KCRM's website or send a
check directly to KCRM, 1520 Cherry St., KCMO 64108. This way, your
donation will of course be tax deductable (PLEASE BE SURE TO PUT
SOLES FOR SOULS IN THE SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS BOX).

That's understandable about the chip and ankle strap. That happened to
me twice this year before I bought an ankle strap. As long as Benny
ran the race barefoot and we have his finishing photo then it looks
like he is the sixth barefoot runner.

Here is another theory about Chad. He is in the results with the 2007
Marathon Clydesdale and Barefoot Results. So do you think he should
have been a Clydesdale and not a Barefoot Runner??? He looks fairly
big and they might have put him in the wrong category.

Nobody mentioned anything about my comment on the TigerPaw Fan Club.
Now that was funny!!!

"Barechested" not "Barefootted"
An easy mistake to make.

There's a video on Scott Jurek's blog when he won last year's event
too. It goes into the history of the event - and gives you an insight
into how the Greek people are proud of their past and gives a sense of
their famous hospitality!

Enjoy,

Yanni.
Barefoot runner since December 2004.
PS I'm half Greek - (from the waist downwards, which explains why I
run barefoot ;-) )

That must be Benny. The finish time is the same he reported to me!

Have fun,

No wonder he didn't stay for the awards!

By the way, the Benny that contacted me is not in the results, since
he didn't wear his chip on an ankle strap (it was in his pocket), so
he didn't get official results.

have fun,
-barefoot ken bob

Looks like BFT helped crew his friend Scott Jurek to victory!

Ted, what do you do when you crew?

Justin
